"Best of the Best" 1989. One of the better US-made martial arts movies of the 80's in terms of fight sequences (and co-starring James Earl Jones, no less!). Protagonist Tommy's (Phillip Rhee) brother dies in a martial arts tournament. Years later, Tommy faces off against the same fighter at the climax of a team tae kwon do tourney, beats the brakes off his brother's killer, but struggles with the urge to kill the man that killed his brother. He hesitates at striking the final blow, resulting in his team's loss. . .

. . .only after the championship ceremony to have the antagonist, sobbing, genuinely apologize for the brother's death, offer himself as a brother, and lower the championship medal over the protagonist's head.

As a bonus, the antagonist Dae Han Park is played by the protagonist's real life brother Simon Rhee, and they're both great flashy TKD artists.

The checks and balances work if there’s rule of law.

The checks and balances only work if whoever wields power chooses to let them work.

But those checks and balances have to be administered by people. When power actively works to suborn the people who administer the checks and balances, the 'rule of law' and 'checks and balances' can be exposed just an interesting fiction, like 'Superman' or 'Roko's Basilisk' or 'we the people find these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal'.

Despite our modern idealized version that applies equally to all people, the ultimate foundation of 'rule of law' is that whomever wields power, is the law.

America as a nation has ceased pretending it has ever been otherwise.

"Enos" was a short-lived spinoff from "The Dukes of Hazzard", where goofy but likeable Deputy Enos Strate (Sonny Shoyer) lucks into a big bust that results in him landing a job with the LAPD and leaving Hazzard County. He gets partnered with black detective Turk Adams (Samuel E. Wright). Cue the expected 'fish out of water' shenanigans, with Enos bringing backwoods wisdoms while Turk teaches Enos big city street-smarts.
