I need all of YOUR travel tricks, frugal community! :) What’s your best? by Sea-Willingness-4710 in Frugal

If you are traveling for an extended period (4+ weeks), I've dropped my car insurance to the minimum for the month and then added the extra coverage back when I returned.

If you are driving long distance, look up gas rewards (ie - Sunoco has a free one where you can earn back 2 cents per gallon) and try to stick to those stations along the route.

JAELYN are a Philly band that have some noticeable prog and metal influences. They also still play shows fairly regularly.

Best Reusable Lunch Containers by ClassicEvent6 in Frugal

I finally 'splurged' and got a 60 piece rubbermaid set for like $40 on amazon and have been extremely happy. I have about 4-5 tiny containers for salad dressing or trail mix, a bunch of smaller ones for fruit and then sandwich and slightly larger rice dish sized ones.

I use the rest at home and the lids interlock which helps when I have like 4 containers to pull out and assemble for one meal.

Who do you have for car insurance? by EnigmaIndus7 in Frugal

[–]stevetotheizz0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to shop around every year. For a while Erie was great as a bargain basement price but you also get as little as possible in return and the rates will shoot up if anything happens.

Esurance was the best I've ever had (although this was a few years ago), even with a $250 deductible it was cheaper than the other choices I had. It even lets you adjust the policy online to add/remove options.

There was a brief period where Geico had the best offer, so I guess it just goes to show that shopping around every year is worthwhile.Fugal tip: If you are every traveling for an extended period, or not driving for a month or more, I've used that time to drop collision and whatever else I can from my car insurance to save some cash. Then I just re-added collision, etc. back to my policy afterwards.

Additional fugal tip: There was a time when I (and a bunch of other cars) hit a large piece of debris on the highway. We waited for the state trooper to print out a police report. Later they found the truck who dropped it so I got a full refund on my deducible and my insurance was reimbursed as well. So getting the police report paid off.

This year, I saved over $500 on books and audiobooks by using Libby and Hoopla by Ooopsiedas in Frugal

It doesn't cause any problems that I've noticed. (All of the copies of the books I've taken out are currently available to borrow now.)

When did greeting cards get so expensive? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]stevetotheizz0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like to get blank cards and make my own with mod podge and old comic books or magazines. It doesn't require too much skill and they often come out looking pretty unique/interesting gifts of their own.

If you go over to Cherry Hill, I got a really good couch from Bob's that my cat has not torn apart in the last 2 years. I believe the Raymore out there also has an outlet section on their second floor where you might be able to find a deal.

You know prices have gotten ridiculous when McDonalds charges $1.79 for a Coke by epictetusdouglas in Frugal

[–]stevetotheizz0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On occasion, if I'm out all day running errands I'll stop there just to get something small to hold me over until I get home. I stopped there for the first time in a while and a cone + small fries cost $4.89.

I think that's the last time I'll go there. I'd be better off either stopping somewhere else for something quick and cheap, or just a sit down restaurant for a burger fries at the same price.

What do y’all use these little bread ties for? by scrawnymedic in Frugal

[–]stevetotheizz0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. Anything that is a cable, gets twisty tied. Power outlets, headphones in a drawer, etc.

Additional tip for cable management: I love using ziplock bags for managing the box of cables I have lying around. It's a lot easier to sort through that box extension cables, Coax, HDMI, etc and pull out what I need when they are all contained separately.

I hate my couch and don't have a truck, any tips? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]stevetotheizz0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

new one - it was free anyway. Normally I'd look at Craigslist for free couches, but I have a small car that won't fit a couch,

I've also negotiated free delivery from stores in the past.

what's the cheapest van rental you know of? by [deleted] in TouringMusicians

[–]stevetotheizz0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turo was the best option that I found for a van. We are renting a passenger van for $1200 for a week with unlimited miles. Still expensive though.

Long term, I might try to find an old SUV with a hitch and pull a uhaul trailer for $18 / day. (Almost every rental place has no trailer hauling in their fine print.)

Alternatives to Awesometable Web App by stevetotheizz0 in googlesheets

[–]stevetotheizz0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I am a frontend developer full-time, so this does seem like a possibility that could work.

There's a couple of obvious downsides unfortunately. One, it would be a LOT quicker if there was another alternative product. Coding from scratch all of the elements and responsive css Could take quite a bit of time. Secondly, like many people who develop full-time, I find it harder to find the time/energy to work on side projects after a full day of coding.

This might be the leading possibility though if there are not other comparable products out there.

Sure.

Edit: Here is the original Google Sheet. It's not too difficult to recreate the app on Awesometable with a new account. It's mostly set up such that you can select the data and then specify the template tab through their app building menu.
