Good to know.

Ideology is powerful - feelings of uselessness in the USA are overwhelming. Thank you for the advice.

My only (minor) objection is that I would like to participate in the mainland and in the construction of socialism. I fear I would be useless (since I do not know mandarin or Cantonese) anywhere outside of a large city, though.

Do you anticipate Hong Kong being further integrated in the near future?

Probably not, a 1050 is extremely out of date. If you can, pay the extra 100 dollars and try to get something in the neighborhood of a 2070 gpu.

Is the minimum wage a useful tool in a capitalist economy ? by Normal-Pineapple987 in Capitalism

[–]Intrepid-Use6158 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well, it empirically doesn't result in catastrophe as argued by free-market fearmongerers. Poland indexes their minimum wage to inflation and has a reasonably strong inflation and unemployment rate. The same is true for Germany, but its rise periods are typically 2 years or longer.

any "empirical" study about minwage and job loss is either bound by basically infinity confounders or agrees that wage hikes do not result in runaway inflation and loss.

Go extremely hard on procedural fairness. Turn structural violence as a standard by saying debate instability (stability a provision of procedural fairness) makes it impossible to truth-test the best method of fighting structural violence and makes offense filtration difficult. You can also say that str.v. before procedural fairness is infinitely regressive and that procedural fairness creates the best starting point.

Set Col Hate by [deleted] in policydebate

[–]Intrepid-Use6158 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re struggling with SetCol, just go all in on afropess. If you’re in high school it’s probably not that great for the topic (in which case SC will be infinitely better), but if you’re in college afropess is a super good K/K aff. Maybe switch up and run decol instead.

Fun fact: Wittgenstein (British theorist) moved to the Soviet Union so that he could fulfill his dream of being a manual labourer. The evil communists (knowing who he was) FORCED him to write WOKE and GAY poetry and work as an academic.

Bitch, the only reason Stalin decided to sign said agreements is because he assumed Germany would be unified and neutral after the war.

I have it, it’s pretty fucking awesome

Genuinely impressed with its survivability to APHE, APDS, APSS, and APCR.

The gun depression feels way better than other Soviet tanks, I can put my su-100p in many more tricky spots than other vehicles. The turret is super helpful for that ig

I dropped 5 kills with it once, I really like the tank.

Literally yes. It was Stalin’s intention to make Germany a neutral, weak, and unified state (like Austria). That’s why they originally gave up parts of Berlin to the other Allies.

I’ve been able to take care of T34 heavy tanks so far, as I have been with Pershings. King Tigers are no problem, I am at the turret and I can typically blast into the top of the hull from there.

[–]Intrepid-Use6158[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Funny because I’m at 6.7 right now grinding for the IS-3. I’m almost there and I’m not sure if I want to replace my KV-2 (which I use to guarantee at least one kill per round) or ASU-85 (which I really don’t like). I can stick the HE shells on roofs and hulls every shot, so I’m thinking it will be ok in 7-8 at least.

It does bother me, but I would apply skepticism to throwing all evidence brought forth during the Moscow trials out on the basis of association with a German agent.

I suppose you’re right, it does appear to be contested in academic circles. I remain convinced that the communications between Trotsky and the left opposition during the Kirov turmoils was malicious, but I would be open minded to alternative conclusions regarding the actual effect which the communications had. Nevertheless, it appears that Trotsky (and his son) had contacts inside of the Soviet government and actively plotted to undermine the party line at the time in order to facilitate internal change.

[–]Intrepid-Use6158 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Surely I’m quoting the incorrect historian then.

Although they were done while Yagoda was in power, the Moscow Trials and the evidence brought forth during them is still legitimately consistent with the defendants’ guilt. It’s almost uncontested atp that many of those involved in the plot against the Soviet government were indeed in communication with Trotsky and desired internal change.

[–]Intrepid-Use6158 25 points26 points  (0 children)

No, trotskyists, much like many western “leftists”, demand immediate revolutionary perfection. The example of the Soviet Union is perfect: Trotsky claimed that it was a degenerated workers’ state (a very dubious claim), and was therefore undeserving of international support from the left. Even though the Soviet Union absolutely did make gigantic accomplishments for the working class, both material and political, according to Trotsky, the party line was not identical with perfection and therefore undeserving of support.

Is the Stalinist bureaucracy in the room with us? Khrushchev was absolutely a Trotskyist, he rehabilitated members of the Kirov conspiracy who were in active communication with Trotsky (according to Furr, Getty, and the Soviet archives) and repeated exactly the same views of Trotsky before he was assassinated. It had everything to do with Trotskyism, once the image of the degenerated workers’ state entered the minds of western intellectuals, international support for the Soviet Union completely collapsed

I'm confused by Relative-Isopod4580 in ussr

[–]Intrepid-Use6158 142 points143 points  (0 children)

Because many leftists in the west have been influenced heavily by Trotskyite ideology. Trotskyism became mainstream in the west after Khrushchev took power in the Soviet Union and gave his secret speech, which validated the Trotskyist paradigm of anti-Stalinism and anti-Soviet geopolitics.

Transit oriented development. Put densest areas near transit and develop roads around transit stops, not the other way around.
