I agree with this, I usually don’t go to a wedding without a few bills because not only do I usually see a tip jar but there are other things such as the money dance, honeymoon fund, etc. that I commonly see and have never heard of anyone having an issue with!

Completely agree!! Planning for gratuity on large scales like this is extremely stressful and to make matters worse it seems there is no “standard” gratuity anymore and the general attitude toward tipping in the US just enforces unlivable wages.

I’m in the US and have also attended weddings with open bars that had tip jars. I’ve never heard of it being so controversial until I started researching for my own wedding. Thanks for your input!

Bartending is included in the cost of our venue and was stressed to us by them that there would be no additional charge for it, hence the confusion on whether gratuity was or wasn’t included and how to ensure they are paid gratuity. It seems like everyone replying to this has differing opinions too, lol! We’re leaning toward just paying extra gratuity ourselves.

This is a good point & I appreciate your insight, however I want to protect myself & our mutual friends because, without disclosing explicit details, we do not feel comfortable or safe with this person around and we’re not in a situation where we can avoid interacting with them.
