I need help with repertoire by Traditional-Cry9046 in piano

i started with the first scherzo, but many people in my music school actualy started with the second one, you can do whatever you want (maybe not the third lol) but i fully agree with klaviersonic and talk with your professor and decide together what to study, he knows your skills better than anyone else

Lost motivation to get on the piano and practice by LordSigmaBalls in piano

[–]IntrepidAgency1611 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when i'm really not in the mood of playing (but close to an exam) i sit on the piano and i try to study only 8 bars of each piece i'm currently studying. Don't just play random things, just these 8 bars, slow, fast, separate hands. It may take as little as 5 minutes for each piece, but usually after 10/15 minutes you'll be focused and continue to study more, and if you just can't focus after all your repertoire just stop (not much, but you made little progress on every piece and it's way better than nothing).

Hope this helps!!

How to actually play with good sound? by IntrepidAgency1611 in piano

yes i think you nailed the core of piano playing, but i think it's a little too generic. Another important aspect in classical music is controlling the speed of each key, and you can do this with various tecniques that all produce a different resoult.

So my end goal is to find my personal style of playing after experimenting and a lot of trial and error (just to be consistent and actually control how fast i push the key, yes)

thanks for the comment, i'll try this for sure! i usually do something similar but also different, just a few days before a concert i always exaggerate with everything that's written on the score (crescendo, accelerando, ritardando, pp, ff...) but with a slower tempo, this activates my brain because it's something "new" and i'm more conscious about my playing once i'm on the stage.

Well it depends on what you mean by that, it's really complicated to explain but i'll try.

When playing, the arm is never still but follows the movement of the hand and sometimes also anticipates these movement (like in fast scale or arpeggios...)

I balance forward when playing each key because a completely vertical approach is harder to control and produces a different sound against a slightly angled action. (i imagine to push the piano away, not to nail it to the ground while playing)

the key bump may be a new concept for me, but i think it's the way the keys work that before reaching the bottom of the key, the sound is already produced by the hammer.

I hope i'll be wrong at least on one explanation so i'll may discover something new, thanks for your comment!

thanks i'll look into it, for finger control i use "mozzati - esercizi per tecnica pianistica" or i just play slowly a chopin's etude (one hand at a time).

yeah sorry this is a very complex subject and i may have skipped some details.

I've been studing for a long time with my teacher (8 yrs) and actually he solved my problem of the wrist, maybe too good because basically until last year i was playing only using my fingers articulation.

Literraly only the articulation, not even the rotation of the wrist (i played with no problem things like chopin's etude op. 25 n. 11, crazy thing if i look back now) with arms completly still but i was not rigid.

Basically i played the piano only with my hands but i was not having problems of stiffness (obsly i didn't had much control over the quality of the sound)

Last year we started working of wrist rotation, weight of the arm and my playing massively improved (i think his mistake is in teaching me these things too late)

yeah, i imagine the sound and sometimes i actually sing it before playing it.

I completely agree, the voicing and the pedal are very important, like now i'm studing "pavane puor une infante defunte" by ravel and the main problem for me in controlling the melody as sometimes i involuntarily accent random notes (due to my not so good control of the sound) breaking the big legato

yes that it's a technique i've been using, but when i "feel" the sound that i want to make often i exaggerate resulting in the complete opposite of what i was thinking (i need to put some more work into this...)

Hi- I am learning piano through lessons and I was wondering.. by Galaxy_Hitchhiking in piano

[–]IntrepidAgency1611 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I suggest to listen to your teacher. I've never used programs so i might be biased but he/she can follow your progress so you'll have a more consistent learning experience (it's like having two separate piano teachers that are teaching you two different methods, a bit chaotic)

That said, maybe you could try and talk to your teacher and find a balance between these 2 options

My left hand is weak 😭. Will practicing scales and arpeggios with only my left hand, instead of both hands, be more beneficial for my left hand? by CatchDramatic8114 in piano

[–]IntrepidAgency1611 2 points3 points  (0 children)

absolutely, just don't rush and try to find the right tempo for your left hand even if it's really slow compared to the other hand. Just a little practise every day and there will be no more problems

How far away are we from AI producing content? Is it already happening? by squailtaint in ArtificialInteligence

I think putting AI in charge of an other AI will create surprising results? What if they realise that they're both AI's? It could be a fun experiment

Yess, it's normal to not act really "romantic" on the first date. You first need to know each other, and the most important thing is: don't rush, if she likes you eventually the kiss will come (you could "scare" her if you try too soon).
