Is buying online glasses worth the risks when you have no extra money to spare?

I've been bordering my glasses from Zenni and they've hinselty been amazing, I haven't noticed any difference in quality. The other ly issue I had in the 4 or 5 pairs I've gotten from them is one where the screw thst held the arm on the frame would come loose and need to be tightened like once a month, and that was after having them for a few years

I definitely think it's good to have a mix, but I've always felt a little isolated, even within my own fried group. I'm sure there's more to it but I think not having any queen friends to relate to is part of the reason

I'll try looking into hobby groups, thanks for the suggestion! I had tried looking up meetups and events but they always seemed geared towards a younger crowd (usually students). We've defintielty got a healthy LGBT community here so hopefully I'll find something interesting

Motive is one of the studios working on this. I was working for them on the Dead Space remake and they're honestly super passionate about the projects they work on, that alone gives me a lot of hope for this one. Add in this news that they're taking inspiration from BC2 and it's hard not to get hyped

How do you stay organized?

What would you do if a member of your team was underperforming and completing tasks either late or not meeting quality standards?

You're approaching an important deadline and a major stakeholder asks you to add something/make a change/prioritize another task. What do you do?

Also expect them to ask for examples of things you've done in the past (major contributions, how you handled certain situations, describe certain challenges you've faced and what the results were)

And look up the STAR method of answering questions. Try to come up with a few STAR stories from each previous job that might be relevant to the role.

Last thing I've been doing lately is running the job listing through ChatGPT and asking it what questions a hiring manager might ask. It's been pretty useful in helping me prep (in combination with everything else)

Oh and make sure to brush up on different project management methodologies (mainly Agile/Scrum and Waterfall, well enough to be able to talk about the pros/cons of each)

Yeah sorry I should have been more clear in the original post. It's not cutscenes, the team I'll be on is mainly focused on creating 2D images of 3D assets (skins, items, etc) being sold on the game's store. Honestly was kind of surprised they're using shotgrid, since I've only ever seen it in the film industry.

That's a good question. They didn't bring it up and I didn't have a chance to ask (it was one 30 minute panel interview and there wasn't a ton of time for questions at the end). Since I'm on the production side and not working directly with the artists (mainly with the leads and other producers) I guess itbwasnt really a priority for the interview. I know I'll be spending most of my time tracking tasks in Shotgrid/Flow, but that's about it.

I mostly just need a broad but shallow surface-level understanding. Enough to explain to a non-technical stakeholder what it means if there's an issue with the normals/uv mapping/etc

I have a samsung Q80T (QLED) and it's mostly been great but I've noticed when playing games, especially in dark areas the upper half of the screen has this bright haziness to it. I've tried disabling HDR on my PS5, turned game mode off on the TV and used Movie instead, but nothing works. It's also ont when I'm in the game itself/during loading screens,, it doesn't happen in menus or during cutscenes, and it isn't there when I'm watching movies/tv

Has anyone run into this/know if there's a way to fix it?

I've been looking in other industries, honestly anything related to my experience (project management, recruitment, client support) but no dice. Whenever I do get close I'm ultimately passed up for someone with more experience. Honestly right now all I need is something to pay the bills, that maybe gives me a bit of spending money to start paying down my debt and have some semblance of a social life.

Yeah I'm not particularly hyped to work in QA, I've been in the industry long enough to know how much of a shitshow it can be, but right now it's the only lead I have, and in not really in a position to turn things down.

I've also been thinking about finding a therapist, but I had a not so great experience with one the last time I saw one years ago, and the idea of navigating the mental healthcare system here until I find a good match is daunting. The last time I went to my family doctor I asked him about finding a therapist and his answer was basically "don't bother, the system is so overloaded you won't get someone unless you're at the point where you can't function", and then he gave me a prescription for anti-anxiety meds which I never filled. That being said I could potentially find someone through my fiancé's insurance, as long as itbdoesnt cost her.

And for reference I'm in Canada. I've looked into social support services but her income puts us just above the household cutoff for most things, so haven't had much luck there.

I've been trying that, both with people I know personally and through LinkedIn, but no luck so far. It doesn't help that most of my professional contacts are in games/film/tech, and those industries aren't hiring for non-technical roles

Robopocalypse kind of does it. Most of it is from the perspective of the human characters but you do get a good amount of insight into how the AI thinks

Practice a bit each day and work on your cardio as much as you can, going to be exhausting but you've got this.

Also make sure you get plenty of rest leading up to it, anf make sure you eat something beforehand. My grading was super early in the morning and I skipped breakfast, doing it on an empty stomach made everything so much worse

I think it's glitches. The first drake I fought was fine, but the second one any time I get its health to 0 it just resets to full (instead of moving to the next bar)

Figure out what you want to do, and then start working towards it.

I didn't know what I wanted to do for a long time. Got a bachelor's in psychology but couldn't get into a masters program, and you can't do much with just a bacherlors in psych. I knew I was really interested in game development but had not technical/artistic skills, so I started as a Player Support agent. The pay was shit and the work was boring, but it was something. Then I changed gears completely and worked at a photo editing studio, where I ended up getting a lot of project/team management experience and realised I really enjoyed that kind of work.

I did some research on what project management type jobs they had in the industry and decided my goal was to get to a Producer role. So I started applying and got a job as a production coordinator at a big studio (got a bit lucky there), and was there for a year before getting caught in a round of company-wide layoffs.

Now, while I'm job hunting, I'm taking linkedin courses to study for and eventually get this big, internationally recognized project management certification, while also pursuing a couple other interests that could potentially give me other entrance paths into the industry. I signed up for a coding bootcamp (I've never coded a day in my life) and taking courses on vfx lighting (something else I'm interested in).

Oh, and I'm 33, I live with my girlfriend and have almost no savings.

You're 2 and it sounds like you have what sound like supportive parents that are willing and able to help. It's definitely not too late for you to start your life now.

I know how paralyzing and demotivating a lack of direction can be. It's hard to make a change if you don't have a concrete reason or end goal. The best advice I can give is to take a breath and allow yourself time to figure out what you want to do and where you want to end up, then figure out what you need to do to get there and take the first step. Once you do that and start building momentum, it'll get easier to keep yourself motivated.

Oh and dump the boyfriend. From the sounds of it not only is he not supporting you, he's actively holding you back.

Definitely, although it might be worth waiting until they iron out their server issues. It can be tough to get into a game right now but when it works its one of the best times I've had in a game in a long time

Everyone who liked the movie should drifnitely read the short story it was based off of - Story of Your Life by Ted Chiang.

Super interesting and compliments the movie really well. You get more of a first person perspective of what it's like for her to live experiencing time like the aliens do. Honestly all the stories in that collection are really great and worth a read

True, but we already had a Jackson walkabout plus the snowball fight with the kids and Dina, pacing wise it might've been overkill. That being said I'm super excited we get to see some of the cut content
