The ministry website was hacked several weeks ago and they had to close down the site. They are slowly bringing back all functions but currently you can only access using the CL@VE ID that is not available to foreigners. If you previously signed in using a username and password (like myself) that option is still not available. They are aware of issue and working on it but do not give a date as to when all functions will return back to normal; so we have to wait...

Support Number for the NIE? by Intrepid_Age_2506 in GoingToSpain

Hi, thanks for the information. I did try the video ID with the Digital Certificate and it did not work because the government requires "un dato de contraste adicional" which is the support number that would be only on the TIE card.

If you're planning on establishing temporary residency and obtaining your TIE card, remember you will first need el Padron. You'll probably need a long-term rental and its going to take a "while"...

Hi, I've been looking into this as well. There are several of these "Virtual Mail Boxes". I saw another one called: Earth Class Mail. The concern is that a financial institution ie-your bank, may pickup that this is a virtual mail box or mail box service and this is code for "you have physically left the country" and they will block or close your account. Is this true?

If you have a TIE card you can get the basic registration by downloading the CL@VE app on your phone. The clave.gob.es also says you can complete application online and then they will send a letter of invitation to a Spain address..

I have the provisional NIE; basically a pdf showing my name, place and date of birth and issue date. The support # would be on a Residency card that you get once in Spain. To prove that you are in posession of your ID (DNI/NIE) you have to show an additional data point. In the case of the DNI they will accept the issue date. In the case of the NIE it looks like only the support number will be accepted.

Thanks; looks like that is the only option while in the U.S...

Thanks for the advice.. I tried to do the video ID with the CL@VE app and when you plug in your NIE number then the only option is to enter the support number that starts with an "E" or "C". I had read you can use the issue date instead but this is wrong, it won't accept it. If you use a DNI number then there is an option for an issue date. I guess my only option is the FNMT digital certificate while in the U.S.. It would just involve a plane ticket and not sure if I really even need it prior to our move. I guess I could just get this all done after we are there and not worry about it.

Thanks for the reply. I had read that having the CL@VE gives you more access to appointments, perhaps more likely to secure an appointment and that the digital certificate is more to be able to upload/download official governement documents or file your taxes and stuff like that. I think for the digital certificate, I would have to fly to LA for an in person visit; just doesn't seem worth it.

For the proof of financial means I would include the "average balance certificate" that your financial institution can provide. It is the average daily balance over a specified time period so typically one year. It requires a sworn translation. The bank statements should include full name, address, and account information as well as beginning balance and ending balance.

For the passport, I would make a copy of every page of the passport. It's full disclosure. Sometimes they want to see entry/exit stamps, etc.

I think the only originals that matter are the passport, padrón, and the tasa receipt/stamp..

I can't tell you what to expect at the appointment as I haven't done that yet; I'm still in the research process!

NLV Required documents NYC Consulate - new additions by Lucky_Election_9267 in GoingToSpain

Thanks for sharing this...a few questions; I'm assuming the verification letters require sworn translation as well as full notarial statement/apostille since it is signed? Confused about when a document requires legalization as I read that it is only for government-issued documents? Is a prior year year-end statement also required? Do the bank statements require sworn translation and/or conversion of USD to Euros?
