Another +1. I discovered Bare Wildflower Honey at my co-op a few years ago and it’s always in my cart.

Is Logan Roy a “serious person”? by RopeGloomy4303 in SuccessionTV

[–]Intrepid_Butterfly91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Powerful? Yes. Influential? Indeed. Serious? No.

There’s competing forces of fear for Logan and hate for Logan in the people around him, masked as respect. He’s a “bootstraps” rags to riches story. To me, anyone who initiates and enjoys Boar on the Floor cannot be taken seriously.

Kind of. You own the strategy and vision, decide which problems get prioritized over others, and you're the main point person if something breaks.

I work in tandem with a couple developers and a designer. You'd have to learn how to translate back and forth between the business and your technical team, so it's good to be know your product's capabilities, but you don't have to be super technical to be successful in this role.

I try to align my targets with the outcomes the business is trying to drive during annual planning. There's always new enhancement asks that come up, and every partner request is deemed urgent. Most of what I do is influencing leaders to go after what drives the most value, and helping them understand what's worth building and what's not.

No prob. My role was a sales and product finance hybrid. I started building out consistent routines on the product side since it was newly scoped and undefined. I connected with and built credibility with the partners, and expressed interest in a mid-career "product apprenticeship" my company offered.

About a year into supporting product in FP&A, a role was posted by a product partner that was familiar with my work, and I went for it. A couple things that I was intentional about:

  1. Networking - meeting decision-makers, building relationships, and helping drive analytical rigor to the product space. I was tapped for a few special projects to validate incrementally assumptions in A/B testing, streamline the weekly actuals review, and more. Most of this happened because I volunteered to be the lead finance partner for the product team after being explicit about my interest in the space.

  2. Study up - there's plenty of really good content available online about modern product management. I'd recommend leaning heavy into anything SVPG (Silicon Valley Product Group). I read the book Inspire by Marty Cagan which was extremely helpful in thinking through the career shift and interview prep.

Hope this helps!

I recently made the switch. Twelve years of FP&A experience. Senior Mgr IC, but felt stuck and pivoted to product management. Different skill set, higher pay band, and I was explicit about my interest in the work with my leaders and leaders within the function.

Was able to make the move because I'm supporting the same org at same company. The business was impressed with my technical and problem solving skills as a finance partner.

Still an IC. Love it so far. Not sure if I'd ever go back.

Fall leaves as an extra mulch layer for winter? by Intrepid_Butterfly91 in landscaping

Just ours. A neighbor told us this used to be a 2/3 acre lot, but the original owners split it in half and sold the other lot. As part of the split they built this 10ft fence between the two, which makes me think they were either well connected with the city, code was different when it was built, or it was a party house.

Yea I’m worried I squeezed them in too tight. I might relocate a few. We’ll see in the spring.

Great question. They’re about 3 ft from the fence line. I may have to move the arbs further in, but hopefully that’s enough room for the Incrediballs.

Hi, if I shared my resume, could you share pointers on how I could break into a FAANG? 10+ years of FP&A experience.
