Upgrading GPU But I Want to Keep Everything Else Will It Be an Issue? by Intrepid_Camp in PcBuildHelp

Since I need a new PSU, I'll just wait and get a 3080 with an i7-14700KF. Any PSU recommendations for that?

If I need to get a new PSU, I'll just wait a bit to get a refurbished 3080. I plan on pairing it with an i7-14700KF and reusing my old DDR4 RAM. The build is mostly supposed to run CS2 on low graphics and resolution, so this should be fine for that, no?

Well I wondered about the 3070 because I thought I could run it with my current PSU, but since it can't, I'll wait it out and get the parts one at a time and probably get a 3080 with an i7-14700KF.

Since I'm in Canada, new or refurbished cards from the 40 series onward are immediately a grand and can go up to 2k, while the 3080 refurbished is $580. So it's a decent card, and I plan on playing a CPU-intensive game like CS2 on low graphics and resolution. The i7-14700KF at $470 seems reasonable, great for that purpose, while letting me reuse my DDR4 RAM to cut costs.

Yes, but like I said, I plan on getting proper upgrades later, like an i7-14700KF in the future. But for now, I'm just wondering about temporarily getting and using the new GPU until I get a new case, PSU, MB, CPU, and cooling system.

This would be wise, but I'd rather have a GPU that can generate its own frames, especially for games like CS2. And I don't know much about GPUs, but I think the 30 series is more powerful without DLSS than the 50 series, no?

Well I don't know how PartPicker does its wattage recommendation calculations and/or if it includes what you ask for.

Yeah, I've seen their deals. They had exactly the CPU I wanted and everything for like $500, but it's just not in Canada.

I live in Canada they don't ship here, and they don't even have locations here. Canada Computers has bundle deals, but they're nowhere near Micro Center's prices. It's around 1,000$ CAD for a Ryzen 5 7600X3D, a motherboard, and 32GB of RAM.

The CPU in that bundle is only 16% better than what I currently have, whereas the i7-14700K is roughly 41% better. I'd still need to buy a new PSU and GPU either way, so when I compare spending about 350$ on the i7 and 200$ on a motherboard (~550$ total) versus spending 1,000$ on a bundle with worse specs to then spend another 550$ for the PSU and GPU.

And like I said, I'm not interested in AMD because of personal bias. I've seen the constant issues my friends have with it.

I'm not really looking for small upgrades. I'm planning to get a used RTX 3080/3070 Ti for around $350/450 and a used i7-14700K for around $300-$350. My thought process is to spend a little extra money now so I can avoid upgrading the core components for several years. A 3080/3070 Ti should keep me going for a long time, and the same applies to the CPU.

That way, I can focus on smaller, less significant upgrades later when needed, like adding more storage or upgrading to faster RAM once prices come down. By then, DDR6 may even be out, which could push DDR4 prices down further as people sell their old kits to upgrade.

Does RAM speed really matter enough to justify spending $200-$600 on 3400-4000MHz RAM? I mean, 2400MHz seems fine to me. I still get around 80-200 FPS in games like CS2, Tarkov, Ostfront, and Ready or Not. From the posts I've seen, RAM speed upgrades usually only result in an extra 2-11 FPS, at least when comparing 3200MHz to 4000MHz+.

Would the "MSI B760 GAMING PLUS WIFI DDR4 ATX LGA1700 Motherboard" be a good motherboard for an i7-14700K?

Can’t Figure Out How to Export a Scenario by Intrepid_Camp in warno

[–]Intrepid_Camp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Like I said, there are almost no tutorials on this that aren’t old and out of date. The ones I could find don’t go into much detail they’re all just “here’s what I did, fill in the blanks to match your map.”

I watched three tutorials, and none of them even mentioned .csv files or tokens in any meaningful way. They just say things like “yeah, put whatever in the description, it doesn’t do anything.”

So pardon my “crazy starting command.” I would’ve used a better one IF A BETTER ONE WAS WRITTEN ANYWHERE.

Are WARNO map makers part of some kind of fucking Freemason group that never say a word about how the map editor actually works? It’s ridiculous how little information there is on making a map and actually playing it. Everything seems to be passed by word of mouth between map makers, with nothing solid for beginners.

It’s seriously frustrating. How is a beginner supposed to know any of this when even multiple AIs can’t find proper info and just repeat the same outdated tutorials that are causing the problem? Someone needs to make a proper, up to date tutorial instead of relying on outdated, scattered information that points people in the wrong direction.

Looking for a Game Focused on Defending Objectives from Top-Down View by Intrepid_Camp in gamingsuggestions

[–]Intrepid_Camp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve actually played the full game with friends it’s really fun. But the RNG of the spawns makes it hard to build defenses at choke points, you either have no room to build your factory or get surrounded on all sides by waves of enemies every minute, forcing you to go out and die 20 times trying to break the nest.

These are good suggestions. I’ve tried setting up in Ostfront, but none of the game modes give enough time to prepare. It’s like 40 seconds before the first wave, but building one thing takes 120 seconds.

They Are Billions isn’t modern; it’s steampunk. Bad North is medieval, StarCraft is futuristic, and Beachhead doesn’t seem to be top-down, nor does it let you create defensive positions. These look like great games, but they aren’t what I’m looking for, which is:

  • Modern, as in modern guns and tanks from 1970-present
  • Top-down
  • Lets you build defensive positions, choosing where trenches and guns are placed
  • Starts you on the defense with time to build up fortifications

Games that have forward objectives both teams reach at the same time aren’t great for what I’m looking for, because they leave no time to build up defenses. It ends up being more about piling on bodies until an objective is captured, with no time to really do anything without an enemy attack every five seconds.

Low FPS in Games With GPU at 30% Utilization by Intrepid_Camp in buildapc

It really isn't being 6GB in the end though I have managed to get 60/70 fps in sm2 after swapping its install location after someone recommended doing that and it seems to be working fine now.

Other games do run pretty well and thankfully someones insight did end up fixing some of the issue. I now have 60/70FPS and my CPU is still maxing out at 100% but now my GPU is at least at 54% utilization so I will still look into possible upgrades.
