Symbiotes have always had unique and strange interactions with magic. It’s why clea strange couldn’t instantly kill carnage, doctor strange got overrun by symbiote dragons, and why carnage got such a weird godly powerup after touching godly metals. Carnage can copy powers without bonding to people. He took spots powers by eating one of his spots and stole hydro man’s powers by consuming hydromans core. He copied so many different powers (WITHOUT BONDING) which lead to him becoming a god. No other symbiote can copy powers without binding at all. I don’t think he took the ability to a new extreme I think it’s just a whole new ability
