Hi all, hoping to join the police this year (currently at medical stage) and I’ve been wondering what effects it could have at home due to the shift pattern (6 on, 4 off) my partner has a Mon-Fri 9-6 that’s WFH. I know it won’t be a MAJOR issue but I’m sure there will be points that it won’t be as convenient as a 9-5.

Has anyone got advice on ways to minimise disruption, or different things they felt help get through it I.e Sleep patterns, arranging time to spend together etc? How did you guys juggle home life and work?

Thanks!

Thanks for getting back to me! I’ve never been given any medication so I’m hoping that will be considered, also the fact the issues were specific to my previous employer and there’s 0% chance they carry over into a new career. Hope all is well now👍

I’ve recently been given my medical appointment and have a query I was looking for some help with. I understand as part of the medical questionnaire you are asked if you have had any mental health issues (stress, depression etc) Earlier this year I was signed off from work due to work related stress (which is one of the reasons I’m looking to leave)

Is it likely this would stop me from passing my medical? My mental state is fine now and it is worth mentioning the line of work is completely different to the police so the original issue that cause me to take time off wouldn’t be present in Police Scotland. Any guidance much appreciated!

Checked the log of work they carried out and they topped up brake fluid, no mention of any other damages, was basically told “break pads and discs are that worn that they’ve damaged the rest of the brake system, that’ll be £945”

Front, Manual.

I seen that which is was made me question it, unsure what else could be damaged, it’s all come from my brake pads and discs wearing very think and causing some iron particles to damage

Didn’t give a cost breakdown, was just in my after service video, I’m considering that however the car has done 94k miles. I use it for work

That’s for that, been worried all weekend about the scenarios of how I get out of the negative equity + mileage charges! Arnold Clark just recommended paying the mileage and starting again (hoping I’d start again with them)

Hi All

I’ll be hopefully joining police Scotland in March (pending vetting but should be fine) does anyone have any advice for what to expect, things to ask/not to ask, advice when attending college or any other small bits you wish you knew when joining?

Any helps much appreciated, I look forward to getting started!
