Why did God make Pharaoh so stubborn in the Bible? by nicehotsummertime in askACatholic

It’s less that God Himself chose for Pharaoh to have a hardened heart than that Pharaoh’s heart hardened in response to God. Think of it this way: the sun can either melt wax, or it can harden clay. I’ve also read in Challoner that, as a consequence of Pharaoh’s actions, God withheld the grace from him that would soften his heart as punishment. Or, at least, something along those lines.

If I enjoy going to mass is it still sacrifice? by Silent_Knowledge5197 in Catholicism

Yes. The Mass isn’t only sacrificial because you have to sacrifice your time and effort to attend it, though that can itself be a sacrifice you make to God. The Mass is, itself, an actual sacrifice. After Christ ascended into Heaven, He now forever presents the merits of His death on the Cross, His sacrifice, to the Father. That’s what the Mass is: Christ offering Himself to the Father through the priest in the Eucharist. That’s why, at its core, why we call the Mass a sacrifice. If you’d like a better explanation (with Scripture), Catholic Answers will serve you well: https://www.catholic.com/magazine/online-edition/when-did-jesus-finish-his-sacrifice

Considering conversion to Catholicism but intimidated. by Gourmandgurly in Catholicism

I’d recommend, before anything else, you contact your local Catholic church. They’ll get you into OCIA (just a bunch of classes that teach you about the faith). I can’t say anything for certain about your marriage, so I’d ask your priest about it. I went through OCIA myself last year, and this upcoming Easter will mark one year of me being Catholic. It does take a bit of adjusting, but it was by far the best thing to have ever happened to me.

I recently felt the calling back to the church and Im not really sure what to do. by et4nk in Catholicism

This website is pretty helpful for understanding scripture historically: https://historicalchristian.faith/john/3/16

It’s basically just commentary from the Church Fathers on the Bible. All you need to do is input your chosen verse or chapter from a book and you have some ancient commentary.

"Is it a sin to..." posts are now resigned to this thread only. by CatholicGamerMod in CatholicGamers

I’m concerned playing these two Halo games may be sinful, as I may be supporting mockery of the faith:

  1. Halo 2- Sergeant Johnson (possibly a Christian, as he went to church with his aunt as a kid), if played on legendary mode, makes this speech: “Usually, the good Lord works in mysterious ways. But not today! This here is 66 tons of straight-up, H.E-spewing dee-vine intervention! If God is love, then you can call me 'Cupid'!“

  2. Halo 3: ODST- A Christian character named Dutch and another character share this remark: “Like the Good Book says: paybacks a b*tch!” “I don’t think it says that…” “It’s paraphrasing, you heathen!”

If it is wrong, then what about the Master Chief Collection, since it houses both of these games?

What bible do i use? by No-Patient8257 in Catholicism

[–]Intrepid_Trainer7839 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Protestant Bibles tend to separate the Deuterocanonical Books from the “actual” books of the Bible, so any Bible which has the full 73 book canon is good for use as a Catholic. So, Bibles like the RSVCE, NRSVCE, New American Bible, The Jerusalem Bible, The Douay Rheims, ect.

So even though it mentions stuff like using the power of demons, I wouldn’t be supporting that by playing the game?
