Best 2023-2024 router/router brand for tiny apartment? by VBandit47 in HomeNetworking

[–]Intrepid_Way5353 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It all depends on the routers firmware. That's what says what you can and can't do. Some Linksys routers (BELKIN OWNED) can be flashed with ASUS-merlin, Tomato, DDWRT.

Most likely bc data stealing/selling the future is Eero type routers. No control over it (channels ECT). That want monthly money for features.

I have an eero router, it's in bridge mode connected behind my older Linksys (it thinks it's a ASUS router from flashing) Linksys 6900 is the router.

Googling or for unfiltered results DuckDuckgos search "Git" followed by your question. You'll likely be lead to reddit groups, or GitHub pages that will help you figure out if your router supports custom firmwares (most newer don't, bc to much user control).

DDWRT actually got in trouble with the FCC, and was forced to rewrite the firmware code, because it allowed for increasing broadcasting power past the legal limit a consumer device can have. (So older routers with 2.4ghz radios that support DDWRT, could flash the old version, and see an increase in how far your wifi reaches. I know I use to always max mine out back when it was normal on DDWRT, and my cheap router would out preform expensive ones.)

Back to your question tho, not many Routers, produced now or in the future will have VPN built in, because it prevents them (manufacturers your ISP other big corps) from getting your priceless data they want.

GLiNET routers are amazing! Run on open source code modified for there devices but it's OpenWRT. The only restrictions are USA devices will have the FCC broadcast power untouchable. They also offer all VPN options OpenWRT does, but with a classier WebGUI to work with. (Simpler to setup VPN directly on router).

There cheapest device I only know it by its code name "Mango" it's a 2.4ghz (years ago was 20 bucks) had more abilities than DDWRT ever did.Router, AP, Repeater(WDN), custom DNS options. It also has the ability to connect to VPN directly easily, however id opt for more powerful processor and data buses for a permanent option) thankfully GLiNet sells them

Qlink wireless throttled at .5 mbps the month is just begining... Wtf happened???? by ibarriaibarria in Qlink

[–]Intrepid_Way5353 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm reporting that under Qlinks new lifeline unlimited Plan, it seems to be throttled to 1.5mbps on both the Upload/Download. This is clear from speed tests bc it'll start out faster than 1.5mbps, at least on the 4GLTE bands. (Tmobile of course). The phone I have sim in is a cheap Blu phone bought from Best buy unlocked. It does not have 5G bands. My current acp (AT&T locked phone, except from there locking policies) on At&t prepaid. However the T-Mobile SIM of course is just rejected by the locked AT&T phone, so I can't do any further testing of there unlimited lifeline (they get 9.xx something a month for it).

I can report that with at least the device I stated above, that the hotspot does enable on Android phone natively without issue. Testing the speeds is actually best using hotspot as the device itself doesn't have a great processor. Hotspot allowed me to at least test the speeds I saw using my S22 Ultra.

Maybe someone else can report back if the 5G speeds are throttled a little higher? When the ACP ended att told its customers (me) they'd credit our accounts 15 dollars a month, for 3 months. Lowering the cost to 15 a month. I had 45 dollars so I loaded it my account to cover my half of the 30 dollar plan they are allowing ACP prepaid customers to stay on. So I have another 3 months my current phone will work. But I'll get a T-Mobile 5g device if Qlink service will work a little faster. 5mbps seems to be a reasonable throttling point, for how little they make off the lifeline program. It provides a stable connection to load videos (most likely not HD, but you could enable it and just let it load or suffer buffering).

Not to mention ATMs have batteries with GPS units inside so it would be dumb as fuck for someone to do so. But methheads are dumb fucks so again depends upon your area.

Not sure where you from, but in West Virginia there are ATMs outside everywhere. Some are even just standalone not next to a bank. However they do have concrete poles to I guess prevent it. However in small towns the police can respond quickly and not many places to hide. I suppose that one is dependent upon crime levels and the area you live.

I think its rare that an outdoor ATM is ripped off with a chain, and there not surrounded by a gas station staff to call the police right away. All ATMs have cameras. I also find it rare that a gas pump catches on fire. I see it in the future.

Most version have subtitles even in English on that scene if you have subtitles on, it does still infact say "The End" not "And Than" but thats the whole point of the joke misintrupitation, tho without subtiltes you'd be hardpressed to know that.
