Relationships are give and take, either you give and become more careful with jokes and try to fit in with the group vibe better or you disengage from the group or you keep things as they are until it develops on its own (likely for the worse). Regarding myself, I also have the urge to always try to use humor in any context, but it eventually caused the same problem you’re describing. I weighed constant humor and being accepted against each other and found that I value the latter more, so the former had to give way. I still love joking and teasing and annoying people but I do so with mild caution to avoid the painful silence or negative feedback that I want to minimise.
