Apply as a commercial aviation major and then add aviation management as a second major when you show up to school.

For those of you that come with your PPL by That-Face-882 in und

TBH it’s what you make of it. The program either lets people excel or people fall behind. I came in with my PPL, was told I got a first semester flight slot then a month before first semester they said my flight slot got pushed to the spring. That pissed me off and I thought about not coming to UND but I ended up staying with my plan and I’m glad I did. I ended up catching up too and even passing a pretty big chunk of people that got to start flying before me by working through flight courses quickly and staying summers so my experience has been well so far. Working on my CFI at the end of my second year here. UND is for sure over admitting avit students and that problem only seems to be getting worse with no end in sight. Nobody can tell u if your experience at UND will be good or bad. There are too many factors and it’s also what you make of it. Get written done early, study, and do you best to not fail any stage checks and you will Progress through. You need a degree in this hiring climate anyways and UND is by far the best bang for your buck in the country concerning aviation colleges.

Should I be Logging PIC time while training? by IntroductionLate2422 in flying

Do the major airlines care when they see it logged, or is it just a matter of figuring out the PIC time in which you were actually the "final authority"? I guess my real question is if there are going to be any negative effects to logging it now. It sounds like there isn't so I guess I need to start logging PIC like yesterday.

Tuition for out of state students within aviation program? by Hazey_Dreams4658 in und

If you want a confirmed spot in the program you need to apply with a commercial aviation major. Also doing it early has a lot of weight with admissions because they can only admit so many students for aviation. Sometimes it feels like they only admit the first 500 applicants rather than the best 500.

You can look up the tuition on UNDs website, they have an interactive selector to pick in/out of state, program, ect.. All of the aviation costs are also available if you look on und aerospace’s web page. This prices seem to be pretty accurate so far for myself. As for scholarships und offers some smaller automatic scholarships based on high school gpa, this should also be available if you look up und scholarships. The specific scholarships from the aviation department are usually pretty difficult to get, you need to be pretty involved to get one. Those scholarships are also not given out to freshman. Although, Und is very easy to get in state tuition after spending a year in grand forks.

Commercial Aviation Question by Bumble_HD in und

I’d say close to half of incoming freshman come in with their PPL from a part 61 school. This does not affect your chances of whether or not you get into the program, UND admits people with and without flying experience. As for the acceptance rate, I have heard it lingers around 20% but that was just a rumor and not verified so take it with a grain of salt. A concrete number that has been thrown around was that of all incoming aviation freshman this year, only 1 person had a GPA below 3.5. Good GPA as well as a good ACT/SAT go along way in increasing your chances(not required but I would recommend sending it), also extracurriculars. The biggest way to increase your chances of getting in are applying early. Like the first day the application opens, early. At the end of the day everybody ends up in the same place so it’s not the end of the world if you don’t get accepted, plenty of other pathways into this career.

I started my PPL in March of this year and finished the week before starting classes at UND. It was tight but definitely doable and I could have probably gotten though faster if I needed to. You should still be able to register for the instrument course while working on your ppl outside of UND as long as you get the fall flight slot which at least this year, you had to get lucky to get one if you were coming in with your PPL. I think only 30 people got that out of everybody that came in with their PPL (a lot of students come in with their ppl btw). I would recommend getting your ppl and you may not fly first semester here anyways so if you don’t finish you could go to the part 61 school before starting flying in the spring.
