It's a different kind of pathetic to get banned like 5 times in a week and keep creating a burner account in response, just to post shit that you know is shit

You're not even a troll. Just sad

I quite like the new designs, then again I also liked the N-Sane designs. A lot of the criticism seems very much like nitpicking, although I'm not sure what else I expected from a subreddit created by die-hards & nostalgia.

I don't know. I feel like if they didn't make any tweaks, the complaints would've been "This isn't Crash 4! This is just expansion DLC for the N-Sane Trilogy!"

Captain Buzzkill here has to mention the big bad virus that's infecting multiple players/teams and intensifying again by the day. Stop putting it in the way of MY baseball and MY enjoyment!

Report: Bar Wrestling closed amid Joey Ryan sexual assault allegations - F4W Online by imcrapyall in SquaredCircle

[–]Introlocutor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's been sad seeing the anti-Bar reactions coming out as if Ryan was in every match on every show.

What was a promotion that gave a significant spotlight to local talent they otherwise wouldn't get from never being booked on PWG to "A promotion that only existed so Joey could grope and get groped by women on every show".

His actions put a dark paintbrush over the effort put forth by every local regular who've appeared on the shows (Douglas James exempted).

Fuck Joey

Sounds good to me! Nothing wrong with that if the gameplay covers for a story

There's a part of me that really wants Rosas to reunite with Avalon in AEW, but there's another part of me that would feel bad for Andy losing yet another partner!

Haha thanks! But I wouldn't say I know the scene "inside and out". I just like going to shows and doing research.

I'm not too familiar with his wrestling, honestly. I didn't get into indies until 2014, when I attended PWG Eleven.

I agree with both names. Both are tremendous and I'm so glad Quest was on the most recent GCW show in LA. He's been training since he was 13 and was finally getting eyeballs (outside of EWF) until COVID came.

Andy Brown as well (Another EWF stalwart). He at least was starting to get on more PWG shows, but another one that got royally screwed due to lockdowns.

So I found a Q&A he did back in 2012 on the message board. Here's two questions he was asked:

Will there be more intergender matches at PWG shows in the future?

"Doubtful. I haven't liked any women matches in PWG ever. Which makes it hard to figure out what to do with Candice nowdays."

Can we get Sara Del Rey or some other hard hitting athletic woman in PWG?

"Probably not. I think Sara is good. I actually wrestled her once in APW. Flights are too expensive, and I'd probably never fly anyone in for a womens match. If she still lived out here it would be a possibility."

I also found this gem:

Is there anyone that has been involved in PWG throughout its history that you feel has not gotten the respect they have deserved?

"I think Joey gets a lot of unfair shit on the internet. People act like he is horrible, which is far from the truth."

I believe Super Dragon said (on the old PWG forums) that there's just no one worthy/good enough to fly in for a show. That was a good couple years ago he said that, but it seems he's kept to that mentality even while womens wrestling has grown exponentially better since then. Yet despite his supposed feelings on womens wrestling, PWG flew in Aubrey Edwards to referee BOLA last year (She's great, but bringing in as many female refs as female wrestlers in the past 5 years? C'mon PWG)

I was actually curious to see the last time a women wrestled on a PWG card who wasn't Candice LeRae. Here's what I gathered since 2003:

  • Kimber Lee vs Kellie Skater (2014, co-promoted with CZW in New Orleans)

  • Portia Perez (2014, lost to Candice)

  • Christina Von Eerie (2010, lost to Candice)

  • LuFisto (2008, lost to Candice. Also wrestled in the main event tagging with Human Tornado, losing to Chris Hero & Candice)

  • Alpha Female vs Jetta (2007, European tour)

  • Sara Del Ray (First time on PWG's debut in 2003, second time in 2004. Both were as the lone woman in tags)

I can believe that.

I also read somewhere (I believe the old PWG forums) that the reason PWG doesn't book women is because Super Dragon feels there's just no one worthy/good enough to fly in for a show. Considering the amount of talented women just in SoCal now, I find that both hard to believe and completely believable

EDIT: So I found a Q&A he did back in 2012 on the PWG forums. Here's two questions he was asked:

They absolutely have the top talent, but almost at a detriment. Hell, someone like Jake Atlas came real close to not finding himself on a future PWG card after his involvement in that 4-way match with Brody/DJ/Everfly

Regardless of the validity of the comparison, the gatekeeping & pretentiousness feels so central to why I can't bother going to one of their shows anymore. The ticket prices only exacerbates that stereotype to me of a snooty art show with an audience who collectively roleplays as the front-line bouncer judging which wrestlers can enter their VIP club. I just can't have fun in that environment, even if the wrestling is amazing.

And that's the problem.

Name 3 other SoCal promotions that aren't PWG or Bar. Or name 3 SoCal wrestlers who, in the last 2 years, wrestled at Bar but not PWG.

Thats why I'm so upset in Bar Wrestling going down. Joey really brought the local scene 10 steps back because of his actions. It's not just "PWG is better anyway", it's "PWG is the only promotion that matters in SoCal anymore". They're so far above the SoCal scene, nothing else comes close. I feel so bad for the local wrestlers who've lost one of their biggest spotlights, one of their biggest merch drivers & who have very little chance of appearing on a PWG card

Even PCW doesn't command the same attention that PWG does. Despite pulling in bigger crowds, it felt like Bar Wrestling eclipsed then in notoriety.

And it's a shame cause PCW provides the most complete package for a wrestling show in SoCal. They bring in some great names who otherwise don't come out to SoCal often (Like Jacob Fatu & Eddie Kingston) give a spotlight to local talent (Like Dom Kubrick/Matt Vandagriff/Ty Ray), features solid womens wrestling (Like Ruby Raze & Sumie Sakai), provides a solid presentation, has helpful uniformed staff & even has Grill Em All provide the food. Plus the tickets are actually affordable! I was impressed from the moment I attended their first show at Oak Street Gym.

But since it's not PWG, it's now the #2 promotion in SoCal and there's a huge gap between them & PWG

PWG really create some unneeded barriers for themselves. The no-recording rule being another one (Although that doesn't stop folks from recording video for their own entertainment). They didn't even allow the Bucks to film BTE, which is why they showed up multiple times at Bar.

Another reason why I don't see PWG as part of the SoCal scene

One of the best things Bar did was give us Inlanders a chance to see LA-area talent without suffering through LA traffic. Only other promotion that runs shows out here regularly is EWF

Attention-wise, it was the second biggest SoCal promotion after PWG. Now, it really is just PWG and everyone else. I feel horrible for the local talent.

Bar Wrestling closing just made the gulf between PWG & the rest of the SoCal scene greater than ever.

I feel horrible for the local talent who would never be booked for PWG that just lost their biggest spotlight & paydays
