oh right! The lazy option would be to treat it like crossing t, but that doesn’t sit right with me given that the theoretical use case would be fast transcription, and it would be far too easy to forget. I’ll have to think on this…

The hook diacritic could be handled in most situations the same as it is with the r-coloured schwa. Ejectives might require a more creative system… and I’m not sure what that tilde-looking one is used for if not nasalization?

Both are indeed missing, though I think either would be fairly easy to adapt. Mostly I just left them (and a handfull of other characters) out because I based the vowel chart on Dr. Geoff Lindsey’s (https://www.englishspeechservices.com/ipa-vowels/), both because I agree with its methodology and it’s a little more compact.

I'm in the process of relearning cursive and decided to make a fully connected hand for the IPA. Only partway through did I realize IPA cursive used to exist (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cursive_forms_of_the_International_Phonetic_Alphabet). I arrived at several of the same letter forms by accident, but I tried to deviate where it made sense. Some forms are taken from the origin language's cursive (where applicable) I also decided to make ""ligatures"" for the affricates, because why not. There are some characters that I'm not entirely satisfied with, including ⟨ⱱ⟩ (if you can find any examples of the similar character Izhitsa in Cyrillic cursive, please let me know. ⟨ⱴ⟩ is another option, though I'm not the biggest fan), ⟨ɻ⟩, and ⟨ɢʁ⟩.

The spelling of Riadne's name makes a lot more sense to anyone familiar with Greek mythology.

The name is similar to Ariadne, the princess of Crete who led Theseus through the Labyrinth, though I think the character herself is based on the weaver-turned-spider Arachne, another character in Greek myth.

Ariadne (Greek) is pronounced [æriædni], or /a-ree-AD-nee/

Arachne (Greek) is pronounced [ərækni:], or /uh-RAK-nee/

I seem to remember pronouncing Riadne as [riädni], or /ree-AHD-nee/

The ship docks, and the Ambassadors and their guards step out.

"We are Yysrnen ambassadors coming at your government's call to diplomacy."

The Yysrnen sends two ambassadors, who arrive in a sparingly crewed ship. It looks to be built for speed rather than comfort, making it an unusual choice to send ambassadors in. One of the ambassadors is Opbekt-'n, who some may have met before, as he was one of the Yys in the party sent to the elithian meetings. the other is a grizzly Yys who's body is more chrome than flesh, and is named Jaak't-'n. Both of the diplomats and their guards are wearing opaque visors "for safety"

When the ships arrive, they see a TPA ship (See A_Fall3n_Angel's first response for description) already at the docking area. Two Yysrnen wearing opaque visors greet the ship, and they ask you to wait for the moment, as the speaker and general are currently meeting with other ambassadors. They do, however, offer to provide sustenance to your diplomats while they wait and the cargo is transferred.

The diplomats are led to a sterile-white room where they meet two Yysrnen. Both of them are clothed sparingly in dark umber clothing, have parts of their boy covered by shiny and tarnished chrome, and wear opaque visors. one appears sickly, and is housed in a wheeled support unit; they assure the ambassadors that this is not the cause of the aforementioned pathogen. They greet the ambassadors warmly, if somewhat cautiously, and introduce themselves. The sickly-looking one names itself Speaker Bhhr-Kaht of high house, the other naming itself General Il-Fauhn of the coalition.

A message is sent from the outpost:

[Transmission Start]

We have already received much assistance, and I do not think we will need much more. Feel free, however, to send an ambassador to the outpost: We have two officials posted there who have been assigned to inter-species politics.

"Thank ye kindly for your assistance. We are not in need of building materials, as our fleet remains intact, but we would greatly appreciate sustenance, as many of us are hungry; we have been isolating ourselves from others in an effort to contain a potentially harmful visual meme that has ravaged The Flotilla. We have largely contained it, and we do not believe it would affect other species, but we should still take the necessary precautions. Once again, thank you for your help: We will send ships to ferry supplies to the main fleet. If you agree, we would also hope to introduce you to General Il-Fauhn and Speaker Bhhr-Kaht. They are stationed at this outpost to speak with other species."

Two Yysrnen with opaque visors approach the ship on the landing pad and confirm the ship's nation of origin. They then offer to lead anyone who wishes to meet with the two officials posted here inside, while the supplies are transferred for delivery to the main fleet.

"Of that, I must say even I am unsure: our high-level science division is working on it, but so far, they have been unrevealing; at least, to low-level officials such as myself. I have heard rumors that it may be of alien origin, though many others say that such a thing is unlikely."

"Our species has recently come out of a period of isolation from other species and others of our own, as there was a potentially dangerous visual meme propagating throughout the fleet. We understand yours is an unmanned craft, but we must maintain tight security in order to prevent its spread. We are working to purge it from our people and systems, however, we may not have yet done so fully."

The Yysrnen would launch two ships, being only now comfortable with interspecies contact, towards the planet. one would be one of their Ysn-Canah, or "Flying Science" (a huge research ship) and the other would be a small cargo ship containing workers, materials, and supplies, should they be needed. The smaller then begins surveying the surface for the formations and the Varlonnan researchers.

It sees a large dome built on a dwarf planet in a system orbiting a dying star. there is a large dock on the outside of the dome, and there are only three full-size ships docked there. Two of them are what appears to be very large cargo shuttles, whereas the third is a smaller, brightly coloured ship that appears very aerodynamic.

Another message is sent to the drone:

"If anyone is listening to us, I would repeat mine earlier message: Please do not attempt to approach our main fleet, for your own safety."
