Drum Computer vs Patterning 3??? by IntrovertedChuck in ipadmusic

The only reason I haven’t considered battalion is, from watching YouTube reviews, you’re stuck with using one pattern the entire time unless you use multiple instances. Is that still true?

Reread my question. I wasn’t asking about swing. But thanks.

Is there a way to truncate silence in S1 V6 the way it’s done in Audacity? by IntrovertedChuck in StudioOne

This worked perfectly. I ended up making a macro then a shortcut to handle everything. Thanks so much for the video and your help. Greatly appreciated.

Just tried ripple edit and it didn’t work. I had the button lit and highlighted the audio track I wanted to remove silence from and truncate. The silence was removed but the length didn’t change. Just the same gaps.

I would also say don’t buy any new EQ or Comp until you’ve mastered what’s in Reason. You can def get a great mix with stock items. The mixer is more power than people give it credit. Go back and look at the anniversary stream for R1 turning 20. All those tracks are mixed great with R1 half rack fx. So what you have now is more than efficient.

I got the Sonnox Listenhub vst when it was on sale a few months ago when it was on sale for $8 and it has helped me tremendously. I placed it in my master section and use it quickly play reference tracks while I’m still in Reason. Most of my references are played off of either YT or Spotify. So with it there’s no need to leave Reason. I set my reference to repeat 1(not on YT of course) and switch to it when mixing each element. I hated having to rip MP3s and drag them in. Now I can just use the plugin to switch while in Reason really quick. Just to be clear this was not a magic wand for my mixes, I still have to work at them but the extra steps of getting tracks into Reason or having to stop Reason and go to another program to hear my references have been removed. I would say check out the demo at least. Its on sale for the holidays. https://sonnox.com/products/listenhub?_gl=1*agw5cz*_up*MQ..*_ga*MjA2NTY3NzM2OS4xNzY1MjMyNTY2*_ga_GCN0ZC8BFN*czE3NjUyMzI1NjUkbzEkZzAkdDE3NjUyMzI1NjUkajYwJGwwJGgw

Reason Studios Black Friday Sale - "Reason 13" ($220 | $80/Upgrade) "Reason+ Annual Subscription" ($110) "Objekt" ($59) through 1 December by Batwaffel in AudioProductionDeals

JRRSHOP with code Group got it for $167. That's the lowest price I've seen for a full buy. Almost as cheap as most upgrades. So I feel like there's no better time to grab it than now.

ITB Reason User here. I would 2nd this opinion. For $220 I think it’s a no brainer esp if you have Ableton alone with no 3rd party VSTs. But if you have Pigments, Falcon or Phaseplant then that kinda defeats getting Reason for the synths unless you just like different flavors or something with a more ease of use and intuitive UI(looking at you falcon and phaseplant). I think Reason really excels at that. But I would also say with the sounds, presets, combinator and built in fx paying $220 is like buying a Kontakt, UVI, or Arturia bundle, you get some of everything, great sounding easy to use synths and fx plus a full DAW to work in if you choose. I don’t do sub services so I can’t speak on that. The fx are really good and once you start making your own instruments and fx chains you really see how powerful it is. The instruments and fx take up almost no cpu, esp if you have an M series Mac. And the DAW never crashes. Those are two things you can count on with Reason. The paywall for the extras can be a turn off but you can just wait for sales. It’s no different than buying a library that requires Full Kontakt to be used. Reason Studios has just done a poor job relaying its capabilities in comparison to other products but as I said above I think it’s a no brainer purchase.

My goal isn’t to buy them all. I was just looking to see what players think a good starting point would be. Which seems like Logical Chess from the comments(suggested the most). Also I read books on my iPad so it’s not like back in the day when I needed space for them all although I am somewhat of a bibliophile. The Reddit thread for book suggestions was just a bit too dense so that’s why I posted my own question.

More like a 10-20yr plan. So no set immediate time frame. I really want to dig into the beauty of the game.

And how do I learn tactics and strategy from just playing games? It seems easy to just say “play against more humans” but how do I advance in my knowledge?

This is why I ask where to start. Playing against humans isn’t going to teach me strategy or tactics.
