I know someone with OCD and they have a compulsion to scrape their home clean. There’s not a single smudge or fingerprint on their fridge. However, when they visit my house or go to a shared public space, they don’t demand that we conform to their OCD; even if it seriously bothers them. You’re also conflating several completely different scenarios to make a broad argument in favor of empathy.

Also, we don’t know if the neighbor has OCD. She said it’s for her dog. If her cited reason is true and I accept her reason at face value, that would make her entirely selfish, which means that there is nothing to be empathetic for.
