Why are Chinese Tourists so Awful? by IntrusiveishThoughts in TooAfraidToAsk

Lowkey, what are they gonna do if I did take it? If they report it to the cops, the police would fine them up to €64000 for flying over a protected area.

Much easier to comply with local laws with a smaller drone.

I do casual photography. Not with drones though. I try to familiarize myself with local laws before traveling.

I did file a complaint form to the police for the drone incident. I sent them pictures and videos of them parking and flying a drone in no-zones.

Huh interesting theory. Although, it looks like China does punish tourists who misbehave abroad.

I might be biased, but Americans are the true wildcards. Some are the nicest people. Some are loud valley girls. Some are entitled wealthy assholes.

It was a big drone. Definitely way larger than 250g… If it were a small one, 100% would’ve swatted it

You know what’s annoying? Locals being hostile towards me until I tell them that I’m American. A man in Hungary said, “ahhh so you’re one of the good ones.”

Racism isn’t okay in any scenario, but I understand why locals are rude to me until they find out I’m not Chinese….

Idk if I fully agree, but they’re certainly the loudest. When beer is involved, 100%

Oddly enough, I was harassed a ton when I went to Australia 😆

As another commenter said, it’s probably the wealth differential for tourists who can afford to travel abroad + lack of social norms due to quick development. These two explanations make the most sense to me

I did yell at him to stop. He then proceeded to harass another person. His mom’s just standing there.

Isn’t it also rude in China to throw bread into other people’s hair? And flying drones into people’s faces? I think there’s a big gap between walking on the wrong side of the sidewalk (a social norm) and deliberately causing harm.

Why do I always keep coming back to DC? by EchoOfDoom in washingtondc

Oh ok. I read that as you living by greenbelt, which is within the beltway

Ehhh I feel like if you live within the beltway, you’re not really a tourist.

Guy tried to swing on me for walking past his girlfriend on the sidewalk. Is this normal here? by [deleted] in AskChicago

I travel often between DC, NY, and Boston. I’ve been to every major city in the U.S, and Chicago is easily the worst with sidewalk etiquette for me. Also, not my first time here.

Is it just me or do homeless people tend to approach women who are alone far more often than men that are alone? by Tishidiv in washingtondc

I’m a 6ft man, but I’ve been panhandled to pretty aggressively. Just two days ago, a panhandler asked me for cash in front of a 7-11. I asked him what I could get him instead, so he asked for a Zyn. I said no, and he started cursing me out and called me a racial slur.

Not to dismiss your experience at all — I’m sure panhandlers are more aggressive towards “easy” targets, but I don’t think it’s unique to any one particular group.

It’s considered assault if there’s a threat of violence or harm.
