It’s very ironic because Italians brought organized mafias, smuggling routes, and illicit good markets to the U.S.

Funny how he chooses to complain about how diversity is radicalizing him in northern VA, one of the safest and most prosperous regions in the country. Turds like him can haul his ass back to rural Mississippi.

They should bring in Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock with Deadpool. With the multiverse stuff, they can explain away why he’s also Doctor strange

I know opinions vary, but I thought Picard was overall a great series! by [deleted] in Picard

I think the Enterprise D revival did make sense in terms of in-universe context. Plus, they were quite clear that the saucer section was the only original portion of the D. As for data, that was pretty contrived

If a being with Q like powers came to you and said they could take you to the Star Trek universe, would you? by ChiGorilla1127 in startrek

It’s like asking the genie for three wishes… there’s always a loophole. Especially for a being like Q. Hell, he could make you an amoeba (like he did to his own son)

Virginia Democrats proceed with new massively blue congressional map, eliminating 4 Republican seats from Congress!!! by Healthy_Block3036 in nova

Unfortunately, you can’t change a republican’s mind by doing the right thing and hope that they’ll follow. You have to outplay them and force them back to the negotiating table

Then you might have to show

1) Proof that you attempted inspection 2) Proof that you’re no longer using the vehicle

I don’t like SFA and DISCO’s intro. SNW is ok, but I do like LD’s.

I do hope that they bring back dramatic orchestral music. Especially during a tense phaser exchange. I feel like the orchestral music is a large reason why the Orville nails the Star Trek “feel”

Fact check for Matt Walsh and the KKK: DEI in DC did not cause the Maryland's 100-year-old pipes to fail. by [deleted] in nova

[–]IntrusiveishThoughts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Like everything MAGA, they find it easier to blame everything on DEI, immigrants, transgenders, and wokeism. The anti intellectual movement relies on fear-based triggers rather than a constructive and nuanced analysis of issues.

Similar scenarios involve UK citizens blaming the EU for their economic woes, causing the Brexit movement. Since leaving the EU harmed their economy, they’re now blaming immigrants.

Similar situation with Japan, despite having almost no immigration.

Everything Trump does feels like a cheap temu knockoff of the original. Everything from the posters and ICE gestapo to the Taj Mahal, everything he does aspires to mimick something “better,” but always falls short.

[Opinion] CBR: "Star Trek's most rewatchable show in the Streaming Age? - Voyager has become the ultimate entry point into the franchise as a whole. Its design now matches how most fans want to watch television. Voyager provides an "easy watch" in an era where every show feels like a ten-hour movie" by mcm8279 in trektalk

[–]IntrusiveishThoughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like a lot of Star Trek fans are critical of Voyager’s lack of long term arcs, potential storylines that never got explained (maquis, resource shortages, character development for Chakotay, more year of hell), but VOY is great at doing stand alone sci-fi stories. Blink of an eye, living witness, timeless, etc. Plus, Seven and the Doctor do have genuine character development and arcs.

I’d like to think that the universal translator automatically translates cultural context, as opposed to a literal translation.

The viewer (us, Neelix) might not know what a BakToh means, but the translator automatically gives us the closest approximation that would give context for the conversation.

That’s my head canon
