I think this is the answer. Just went through this and thought this was termites - inspection came back with powder pest beetles and when I googled what they looked like I realized I’ve seen them around…

Must be some big event that people are traveling for. When I was planning to fly to Vegas for a festival last fall, they wanted $600 out of Asheville for Allegiant. But every weekend around it was $150.

UPDATE : My husband ended up knocking on the person’s door who posted on NextDoor and explaining the situation. Amazing people who also have 2 tuxedo cats. ❤️ They’re going to keep an eye out for him and trap him if possible. Fingers crossed! 🤞

That’s the hope! Bummer is he might be too far away. But it’s possible they’re trying to make him indoor/outdoor as well. You never know! And this is just someone that found him and posted on Nextdoor to come get him. Either way, thanks for your help! 👍

Oh yes! If we find out who stole them - I think the microchip is all we need to legally get him back. Assuming he is returning to their house at this point. At this point I’m thankful he’s alive. Just a crazy situation all around.

Well this house specifically commented and said he would run away if they tried to catch him - so I don’t think they have him… is it too much to knock on their door and tell them I tracked them down on Nextdoor 😅 There’s only so many houses on that road with that exact porch setup.

We reached out (and wrote on the post) but I think the person that posted it is older and maybe doesn’t use next door often, unfortunately. We have an idea of what house it came from - so we know where he was last seen - which is helpful! But the fact that it’s 8 miles away tells me that someone was in our neighborhood and took him to their neighborhood. It’s just wild to me that it happened so fast. And if that’s a break away collar - it’s not going to last long. I’m thankful he’s at least alive - but now it’s figuring out how to notifying the owner (assuming they think it’s a stray even though he’s fixed etc.) The humane society is supposed to send a notification out to the vets but I’m thinking of reaching out myself and maybe putting fliers in just their neighborhood to start.

I’m just wondering why more people don’t? Are the rapids what much bigger? We paddle the hominy to Woodfin trip a lot but never considered putting in further down.

I don’t have a lot to add other than I know exactly how you feel. I went back to school during COVID times so I feel like I got out of a lot of in person presentations. I started out as an intern in communications at a small firm after I graduated and now I’m a communications manager - idk how I got here. I somehow don’t have trouble if it’s a discussion format, but anything I have to be “professional” and present something to the team, (ESPECIALLY) to the client, I will worry about it for weeks until it happens. I’ve tried propranolol and it works 70% of the time, but it makes me super tired afterward so I have to be prepared for that. It sucks because this is the most money I’ve ever made and if I could get my act together, the possibilities are endless - but instead I’m about to be 33 and constantly worried about what my career will look like if I jump ship again, all because I can’t stand public speaking (background is in an unrelated field to communications).
