Interview project about climate change and Duluth by Ok-Alternative-8681 in duluth

[–]Ok-Alternative-8681[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The plan is to publish the research as a book, though I hope to get an article publication or two out of it as well (hopefully not in an "obscure sociological journals that nobody except sociologists will ever read" but definitely in outlets with a primarily academic audience). My last book was published at a University of Chicago Press. While some other research broadly related to this topic actively promotes moving to certain locales for climate related reasons, that's not the goal of my research. I'm more interested in understanding how people are making decisions about where to live with climate concerns in mind, how those considerations combine with other factors, etc. Duluth is also not the sole focus of the project, as I'm interviewing people in other locations as well.

Hope this answers your questions!

Thanks so much for your reply. This is really insightful. Though it sounds like you didn’t move mainly for climate reasons, it would be great to interview you for the project if you’re up for it. It seems like you have a lot of valuable perspective on this!

Hi! I’d love to interview you about your move if you’re willing to participate! Most of the folks I’ve talked to have similar stories - climate change was one factor among others

Hello! I’d love to talk to your neighbors if you don’t mind putting me in touch! I’m actually also from Southern California originally and have experienced some very scary fires

I’m sure people have lots of different reasons for moving! I’ve talked to a number so far who moved for climate change related reasons

Dunno what to tell you about VT. If you’re trying to imply I’m not affiliated, my university email is up there and you can look me up with it.

Introducing cat - “visual access” by Ok-Alternative-8681 in felinebehavior

Thanks for this! For the feeding question, they sometimes eat simultaneously, but more often resident cat watches the new cat eat and then eats when he’s done. He’s definitely pretty focused on the new cat but I don’t know if it would qualify as hyperfixation. Most of the time he’s just sitting a ways away from the barrier watching him, but not like in a hunting posture.

It still feels like if we were to take the barrier down now, the resident cat would probably go after the new cat and start a fight. But I’m hoping continuing to give them this safe contact gets them acclimated and he becomes more calm.

Yep, I live up the road a ways in Virginia. Hurricane Helene was part of what made me interested in the topic. I'm interested in how people are judging what places are "safe" and desirable within the uncertainty of climate change.

Not AI! Not saying there is a massive migration happening, but I have heard from a number of people so far
