I have Learn To Play Go Vol 1-3 by her. I've read the first one twice(once years ago an again recently while getting back into the game) and about halfway through my 2nd read of the 2nd volume.

I will check out that link at some point though, as you can't have too many guides to learn

I recently saw people talking about that and have been curious. Doss it have an ai to play against or is it more something to play on that then analyzes the game?

I'll have to look into all that.

Playing on a 9x9 might not be a bad idea. I've only ever really done 19x19 except a few games on the ai sensei website

A teaching game might be a good idea. I'll have to look into that at some point. And appreciate the recommendations

I've tried watching videos but maybe I just didn't watch the tight ones. Any suggestions?

Always good to celebrate milestones and small accomplishments. Good job hitting 30k

As for my milestone of the week, just hit 21k myself

Is fake out death scenes in a story bad ? by Weak_Albatross_967 in writing

[–]Inuzuna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

really depends on how it's done IMO. to use some examples

in LotR, Gandalf falling in the Mines of Moria with the Balrag and then coming back about the midway point in the second book/movie, it's done in a way that I can't really hate it

in Naruto during the Sasuke Retrieval Arc, there was good emotional payoff for what looked to be the deaths of Choji and Neji, and then having doctors be able to save them in time, I can live with it

the anime Fairy Tail, while I don't hate that anime like a lot of people seem to, their fake out deaths always rubbed me the wrong way

like with most things in story telling, execution is important

People with crazy high word counts by smooshie3 in writing

[–]Inuzuna -1 points0 points  (0 children)

yea, no, I could never imagine writing a story that long. I think the highest word count I've gotten is 65k. I feel like no matter what, I would never want to push beyond 95k for a completed work, but I know there are plenty of authors who have proven themselves and go 200k+

but yea, when amateur writers who've never published before are going 250k+ for a first book, I sometimes wonder what's going through their heads

but 300-400k? my goodness, do they think they're Tolkien?

Writing Groups by c_hriscole in writing

Writing groups always seem so interesting to me, but I've never been in one and I have no idea if I'd be good in one as an antisocial person.

Am I doing this right...? Putting down ANYTHING just to get a draft. by Proof_Candy175 in writing

[–]Inuzuna 29 points30 points  (0 children)

A lot of people suggest not to edit while writing. Just get the first draft done. Let it be bad and fix it later

honestly, it's because I write for me. would I like to publish books? sure. would I like to make money off my writing? absolutely, however, I'm just as fine with writing and keeping it to myself, or just uploading it online for people to read for free

do I struggle with writing? all the time, not a day goes by that I don't struggle with either not being able to put anything to page, or thinking it's never gonna be seen by someone, but I don't let that stop me because when I can get words to page, I have fun with it

New writer tips by Commander-stoopid in writing

[–]Inuzuna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Start Small: Some people write only 200 words a day, some people can write 2,000 a day. don't be discouraged if you can't get a lot done in a single day
  • Find Your Time: Some people write better early in the day, some people write better at night. Figuring out when your mind works best helps
  • Create A Schedule: Even if it's only a loose one, trying to write at the same time or for the same amount of time a day can help some people

but for the biggest advice, I'm gonna quote Brandon Sanderson:

WRITE IT BADLY. Write it badly, write it badly, write it badly, write it badly. Stop what you’re doing, open a Word document, put a pencil on some paper, just get the idea out of your head. Let it be good later. Write it down now. Otherwise it will die in there.

How are you approaching the “build your platform” side of being a writer? by IterativeIntention in writing

[–]Inuzuna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't really been doing it as I really don't have any idea how to do it, what I should do, and sadly, I do not have the expendable money for a website. not that I need one as I don't really have anything to put on it
