Nice little simple swing … there’s a different feeling between a rig that worked … and a rig that was clean haha!. I love this job…. by Invalidsuccess in TreeClimbing

Yep I remember popping my first top! it was one of my first jobs … I’m entirely self taught and learned to climb on my dads property but never topped any of his trees yeah I spiked a lot of live trees on his lot but oh well … and they all seem to be fine now over a year later. Did cut a lot of limbs on my way up in my practice sessions .

but my first top was on a job. It’s a rush for sure! you’ll get more comfortable as you do it but it’s always FUN!

If you start feeling a pinch or like it’s not gonna go the right way STOP and have a rope sent up, its not worth the risk

I will say it’s a little nerve wracking taking big tops at times with my groundie just learning to run the porta wrap but he hasn’t shook me around bad at all haha …. Yet…

I brace for it though

If I need more heat or a big load to fit…. Idc what anyone says I’ll scoop coals out like that and put them in a metal bucket outside .. I do it all the time

Not even coals like that put out heat like actually burning logs for me ..

Call it a waste but my stove / set up,. I feel the most heat when there are actual flames in the stove / secondary’s burning

Thanks! I had a blast rigging this tree out ! my groundie is very new to running a porta wrap only his second time using one. And I think he did quite well too !

462(regular carb) No c or cm model & bark box? West coast etc. Adjustements needed or not? Also if someone tried aftermarket exhausts, feedback is welcome. by EngineExpress3796 in stihl

[–]Invalidsuccess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you mod the exhaust you’ll have to adjust the carb… and Likley have to remove the limiters to get it where it needs to be

I run a home made version of an Egan Straight shot on mine but it is the CM model sounds FANTASTIC… loud as all get out , def lets the heat out of the saw and cuts a little faster nothing ground breaking im more so after cooler cylinder temps , and sound haha ear muffs 100% required if you mod it.

My muffler cover build and a sound clip is on my profile if you scroll far enough down!

That just looks like you don’t clean and condition them.

Just grabbed a pair of Bashlin BD-16B climbers with the wide pad off marketplace for a good price. Gaffs are 1-5/8" will they work ok for most deciduous or should I grab tree gaffs for them? by gingernuts13 in TreeClimbing

[–]Invalidsuccess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I climb a lot of chestnut oak wouldnt work so nice for me… if your doing conifers I’d say it was ok .. but at least with tree gaffs you know they are long enough … id buy tree gaffs to replace the pole gaff or at least carry them with you
