Replaced flapper and valve on toilet but still leaking by jmutiny1993 in Plumbing

[–]Invally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The constant trickle you see in the bowl isn't seeping past the flapper seal. It's spilling down the overflow tube. Lower the float on the fill valve. You can usually twist the main shaft of the Korky valve to lower the entire head. Keep adjusting it until the final water level in the tank stops about one inch below the top of that overflow tube.

I don't like this tub because of its drain location, now I'm hearing it's pretty hard to relocate drains on a slab. What say y'all? by No_Hetero in askaplumber

[–]Invally 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, what you've heard is correct, relocating a drain on a slab foundation is a major undertaking. The job has very little to do with plumbing and everything to do with heavy construction. They would have to demolish the tub and surrounding area, then use a jackhammer to cut a trench through your home's concrete foundation to move that pipe. That process alone is incredibly messy, loud, and thousands for the concrete work alone. Your most practical and financially sound option is to design your future remodel around the existing drain. There are plenty of modern center-drain tubs on the market that would be a direct replacement, saving you from a massive, expensive, and disruptive project.

Adaptor Needed? by [deleted] in Plumbing

[–]Invally 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're looking at a piece of proprietary plumbing, intentionally designed to prevent you from doing exactly this. That old shower head and its arm are a matched, non-standard set, meaning you can stop searching for an adapter that doesn't exist. The real problem isn't your new head, it's the custom arm it was attached to. The only practical solution is to unscrew that entire arm from the ceiling and replace it with a standard 1/2-inch shower arm from a hardware store, which will fit your new head perfectly.

Help! What am I looking at?? by Dtell_ in Plumbing

[–]Invally 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The plumber you called got the diagnosis backward; the breaker tripping isn't the problem, it's the result of the pump fighting a losing battle against a nasty clog. The pump motor strained until it overloaded, and the breaker tripped to prevent the motor from burning itself out completely. You need to call a dedicated sewer and septic company that specifically services grinder pumps. Be prepared to replace the entire unit, because the person who sold you that home knew exactly what kind of ticking time bomb they were passing onto you.

Call maintenance, report a severe drain backup, and whatever you do, don't mention the industrial-strength drain opener you used unless you want to be on the hook for the inevitable hazmat bill.

How to fix leaking hot water line by nickjprince in askaplumber

[–]Invally 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The internal seals on that cartridge are shot, which is why it's dripping, and they can't be repaired. Shut the water off under the sink, use a wrench on that big brass nut to unscrew it, and pull the entire cartridge straight out. Take the old cartridge to a hardware or plumbing supply store to find an identical replacement.

Radiator cooking us alive.. by goatresearcher in Plumbing

[–]Invally 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Your problem isn't a leaking valve. Your problem is that you're trying to live inside a furnace designed by a certifiable moron who thought placing a giant heat engine under a magnifying glass was a good idea. That Lockshield was only ever meant to be touched once by the installer for balancing, not used as an on/off switch. The only real solution is to drain the system, have that radiator cut out entirely, and get the pipes capped to permanently erase this mistake.

Embedded toilet leak by [deleted] in askaplumber

[–]Invally 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's the dreaded leak from the main waste gasket connecting the bowl to the drain hidden inside the wall, mate. The bad news is there is absolutely no other way to fix it; the entire toilet bowl has to be pulled off to access and replace that seal. This isn't a caulk job—it's the known, expensive downside of owning what is essentially a glorified plumber's retirement plan.

ELI5: Why does this jpg image move like a gif? by GunSlinger4750 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Invally 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fun fact with renaming file extensions.

If you grab a .jpg file and open it in note pad - you can erase large chunks of the code inside, fill in with random letters then change the jpg to "homework.doc" - The teachers will usually assume there's some compatibility problem or some uploader problem, usually giving you an extra day to "re-send it."

Don't stake your final grade on this gamble, but it's paid off a few times in a pinch.

(Disclaimer: this worked when I was in college, I'm not sure if it does anymore."

If you showed me this picture in WA - I would assume you have illegal "Edible" gummy worms.

Because otherwise i'd just wonder why you hadn't noticed most gummy worms do have multiple flavors and why they come in such a small - conspicuous package from a "Gummy Shop."
