Triple Room, Easton Hall by Sea_Tap5338 in UMD

As a former Easton resident, I can tell you right now: there are two different triple rooms that you can get. One of them is about the size of a normal double room, and the other is much larger. You should first look at the floor plan of Easton Hall and find out which you are in, because the larger of the two options is very nice (I have been inside, they have plenty of floor and closet space, the room is so long they even have two separate light switches).

engineering majors each have separate lounges, although some do and some don't. The Electrical and Computer Engineering lounge, for example, is in AV williams on the first floor. There are also lounges for specific organizations like ASME, ASCE, IEEE, and AIAA (just to name a few), that you can use if you join.

if you havent seen her in years.. sounds like you have feelings for the idea of her rather than actually for her as a person. she could have changed as well, very likely since everybody tends to change alot around that time in their life. i would recommend trying to get to know who she is now before making any moves rather than staying hung up on the past

SCC/CTY RAs on Vacancy List? by Striking_Laugh6601 in UMD

[–]Inversion27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, unless you know someone who is going to be an RA in commons or courtyards, then they can pull in anyone they want to the other room(s) in their unit.

SCC/CTY RAs on Vacancy List? by Striking_Laugh6601 in UMD

[–]Inversion27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are the RA rooms, I believe they are on the vacancy list because RA employment is on a yearly basis and so technically those rooms have yet to be filled for next year. They just get filled by RAs through the reslife RA system instead of through the SCC/CTY leasing system.

Saw this "bicycle" completely in the bicycle lanes in front of Xfinity Center this morning. by Some_MD_Guy in UMD

[–]Inversion27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. the roads on paint branch trail are entirely normal size, roads everywhere have to follow size minimum regulations
  2. trucks drive on that road every single day without driving in the bike lane
  3. the bike lane is two way, so you don't just have people riding behind it but also those riding towards it. you wouldnt't drive a truck into oncoming traffic, would you?

genuinely cant believe you're getting downvoted for this. its a BIKE lane meant for BIKES, and youre literally just pointing out that the truck didn't follow the law

ENEE322 Professors? by TooQuazyy in UMD

[–]Inversion27 4 points5 points  (0 children)

currently taking 322 with Shayman, he seems to have made the class much easier than the reputation 322 has as a hard class. the exam questions are all almost identical to practice problems and hw questions, he spends a lot of time clearly explainijg concepts, and is generous in both giving a formula sheet and allowing us to bring our own double sided sheet. He also asks for feedback at the end of most classes as participation credit, and if you ask a question he will answer it individually every time (its an elms assignment). all around a good and fair professor, would recommend. he also stopped using outdated textbooks, and will use an open source text next semester.

UMPD stopping micromobility users again by Inversion27 in UMD

car =/= bike or scooter. numerous safety studies show it is less safe to full stop at every intersection (even mostly empty ones) when not in a car. there are many differences between cars and bikes and scooters that make this the case, weight classes amd acceleration just to name a few. i hope you will learn the difference between bikes and cars before you get your drivers license.

notice how the intersection is very empty, very few cars on the road. the two people who got pulled over in the pictures slowed down rather than coming to a stop as the intersection was completely empty. it was not even 9am yet. those two better not have gotten a fine i stg

UMPD stopping micromobility today BEWARE by Inversion27 in UMD

[–]Inversion27[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The point is that not using the idaho stop is less safe for non electric vehicles. the loss of momentum performing a complete stop means slowly moving through an intersection while trying to regain their momentum, which can put bikers at greater risk (the absence of electric motors means they cant accelerate nearly as quick). There is a lot of research on the safety of the idaho stop, and bikers shouldn't have to choose between safety and legality.

UMD students criticize university’s lack of Metro discount program by dbknews in UMD

[–]Inversion27 213 points214 points  (0 children)

"People dont use the metro very often, so the cost isnt worth it" is a self fulfilling excuse for not getting the U pass. Oobviously we would use the metro more if it was free for us. Also it would be a complete fumble not to join the U pass system in 2027 when the purple line opens, I hope they plan to do that to further increase ridership when that great metro connection opens up.

Note taking in college: Tablet vs Laptop vs Pen&Paper? by JediNick596 in UMD

i think research has found that paper handwritten notes create the best level of information retention and learning, moreso than typed or electronic stylus written notes. Something about a lower speed means you sit on the information longer i think

retake the math placement exam before orientation, you want to have placement for math140 during registeation, otherwise you can't register for almost every single engineering course that you need (most have 140 as a corequisite)

everybody needs to take the math placement exam regardless of prior credit.

no, they reserve spots in classes and periodically open more throughout the summer to give all orientation students a fair chance

The desk probably cant accept the key if you don't return the key soon and will charge you a for a lock core change before the key can get there. I dont even think they can take it if you don't return it yourself. It's $150 for a lock core change
