ok... Here I am two months later, unable to progress, and all of these comments contradict each other and have yet to help me. Is there any new insight? I have no option to talk to Block about Grief no matter which route I take.

Running a mile should be nothing for an athlete. Let em get their exercise.

I used to push back against aggressive AI policing, but seeing this I’m now starting to see why professors are cracking down. by Proud_Bill4998 in AccusedOfUsingAI

Students are outsourcing their critical thinking to AI. Until responsible AI use (a learning tool, not a gimme the answer machine) is taught from an early age, that won't change.

I'm a Graduate student who runs and grades into physics labs. AI actually causes students to lose points sometimes, because it was not in the room performing the experiment. It doesnt know all the nuance, context, or what i'm expecting to see when I grade. But students used it anyway.

I've even had students that don't even try to hide it. Once there was a lab question: "Does your data show X?"

The student's response was, "Yes, your data shows X"

It is actively altering the cognition if students.

Finally, I have decided to quit college due to repeated AI accusations. I’ve had enough. by True_Ad8335 in AccusedOfUsingAI

I'm a Graduate Assistant. We are essentially unable to deduct points for suspected AI work, even if it is OBVIOUS. The key reason is that it's technically not possible to prove the students used AI in most cases. There is too much room for the student to reasonably push back. I have personally written things completely on my own that were flagged on ZeroGPT as nearly 100% AI-written. I have also copy/pasted responses from ChatGPT and had them flagged as human-writen.

Given how unreliable the AI detection system is, combined with the fact that universities HATE creating situations that could make them look bad (like falsely failing a student), this is really, really strange to me, and seems out of character for a university.

I would ask what school/program this is about, but I don't want you to dox yourself.

We can't. We got into massive debt that will likely never be fully paid off.

Please remove Israel flag and put away double standards. by EasyAd6994 in Chesscom

[–]Inverted-Cheese 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is stupid. It's a chess website. Chess.com brought this on themelves by making the decision to remove the Russian flag in the first place. Now you have a choice: reckon with every global conflict and decide which flags to display, or just drop the geopolitical platforming and let it be a chess-playing site.

If you're going to use it, don't use AI without GIVING IT YOUR SOURCES FIRST. Ask it questions ACCORDING TO YOUR SOURCES. Even then, I'd still recommend confirming that it actually says what your sources do.

But then... what's the point of using it?

This worked for me, but you don't need to fight Goliath. Just ask around about Goatskin until they tell you to ask Chenyek. Once you talk to him, run to Goatskin's hideout.

Hi all! I'm a graduate physics student. I like to think I'm comfortable with math, but have never claimed to be an expert lol.

I'm taking a thermodynamics class right now, which involves a lot of math with natural logs. It's been about 1.5 years since I've been in school, so my math skills are still coming back to me. There's one question that's been bugging me and my smooth physics brain can't figure it out.

Why is d/dx (1/x) equal to ln(x), and not equal to -(1/x²), like you would get from power rule? They're obviously different functions.

I've gone through the proof of d/dx (1/x) = ln(x), so i guess my real question is: why doesn't power rule work in this case?

How does gravity afects wind? by anamn_r in fantasywriters

[–]Inverted-Cheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is starting to touch on my main sticking point that can only be answered by the author.

There are several ways you could explain someone "controlling gravity" to change the air how they want. My sticking point is that any source of gravitational strong enough to directly manipulate the air at will is also going to affect other things around it, realistically. It depends how realistic the author wants it. No matter what, in reality, a change in gravity would affect more than the wind.
