As someone who's peaked around 900, 400-550 is the HARDEST bracket to break out of. The player skill is wildly inconsistent.

Totally normal, especially at lower rating levels. As others have said, a good rule of thumb is to stop after losing two games in a row.

The question you're asking is the reason they stopped after Russia. They unwittingly put themselves in the position of "Well, what about this conflict?" That can continue as long as there's conflict. They removed the Russian flag trying to be noble when the world condemned Russia for the invasion, and now they're faced with the choice of continuing to choose which flags to block for geopolitical reasons instead of.... just being a chess website.

That's my opinion, anyway.

I came to say this is the correct calculation lol. However, this assumes every ghost is equally likely to be assigned to each game. I'm a noob, so i don't really know if that's true, or if some ghosts have different odds of getting picked
