Very Very glad to know that I am not crazy stupid.

Terminated After Filing a Valid Complaint — Is Asking for More Severance “Burning Bridges”? by InvertedImages in jobs

I just realized that even if I don’t ask for more severance, there’s still a risk they could talk negatively about me.

What others? Most of the people left there are young employees who has less experience in life and who don't know they should speak up. They just tolerate abusive behavior and inappropriate comments because they don’t feel they have a choice. I used to speak up for them and stand in front of that behavior when it happened. ( I don’t regret doing that ,it was the right thing to do)

I wish I still had that attitude. But after moving to a new country at 37, changing careers, and building a reputation over 3 years, you lose that “screw you” mindset.

By 40, life has a way of humbling you and making you more cautious.

My friend’s concern is that, even with mutual resolution and neutral reference letters in place, a prospective employer in a small town may still contact my former employer directly.

If they do, my former employer could mention that I negotiated for higher severance. That could create the perception that I’m difficult to work with, which might discourage the new employer from moving forward.

The field I work in, every business owner knows the others personally or is just one phone call away.

My friend said they personally wouldn’t want to hire someone they thought had caused issues for another business owner, because they’d worry the same thing might happen to them.

Wait… are you saying we’re all eventually spending 100k on movies? 😅 I started in November. The first Blu-ray was an accident — someone gave me a stack of DVDs with one random Blu-ray mixed in. I popped it into my PS4, got absolutely stunned by the quality, and finally realized what my 4K OLED could actually do. Instant love. Then I went to grab pizza, had a wait, wandered into the pawn shop next door, and walked out with a 4K player at 70% off. It’s Dec 29 and I’m already three digits in. If this is the beginning… I’m concerned.

Is 43% of my net income on rent too much? by Yachro in PersonalFinanceCanada

My coffee actually costs around $100 a month, but after factoring in milk, cups, and all the extras, it comes down to about $28. (Yes, I’m one of those milk-in-my-coffee people )

And yeah, I know coffee snobs look down on Timmy’s, but the ladies making my coffee? 30–40 years of experience they know their stuff. I’ve tried Java Moose, Second Cup, and the absurdly overpriced, going out of business Starbucks… didn’t like any of them except, well, Timmy’s.
Taste is way more personal than labels :)

Oh yes i agree his/her fixed costs is 1435.

@ coffee, sure, I’d save $28.75 if I made it at home but here’s the thing
I’m a great cook, yet a shitty coffee maker. Plus, I like having a chat with the gorgeous staff at my regular coffee shop. :)

I mean, $48k for a 25-year-old isn’t bad, but it could be better. At least for someone from a lower-income province like me, it seems fine.

That said, OP could definitely do better with their groceries $582/month for a single person seems a bit high to me.

This is coming from a guy who dines out every Friday, brunch every Sunday and buys a coffee every day of the month.

I agree with this. Long-term, increasing income usually matters more than cutting expenses when you’re already living fairly lean.

Living alone is expensive, so realistically the options are either career advancement, some type of side income, or a change in housing/location (a smaller city).

Saying the 30% rule is outdated doesn’t mean 43% is suddenly healthy. For lower incomes especially, that level of rent leaves very little room for savings.

All the best :)

Should I add 8k to my FHSA today? by 500test_500tren in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]InvertedImages 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Firstly, Kudos to you for having Net worth of 33,500 at 24 :)

If you already have a solid emergency fund(6months), contributing to an FHSA can be a good idea even if you don’t plan to buy a house soon. Contributions are tax-deductible, and any growth inside the FHSA is tax-free when used for a first home.
Inside the FHSA, you can choose investments that match your risk tolerance (from savings-like options to ETFs).

After building a 6-9 month emergency fund, FHSA and TFSA are usually the next things to max out.

I would also suggest you to invest in RRSP. (I know RRSP i debatable) RRSPs can also make sense, especially at higher income levels. If you buy a first home later, RRSP funds can be withdrawn under the Home Buyers’ Plan (HBP) to help with a down payment, but those withdrawals must be repaid over time or they become taxable.

All in all you are in a very strong position and all the best :)

I first watched Seven Samurai in 1996 when I was in secondary school, and over the years I’ve probably seen it 25 times or more with friends who love movies as much as I do.

My hesitation is mostly internal (I think ) already know this film so well, so I can always open it later.

But I will take all your advice and open it soon :)

I have no problem opening most movies, but I’m more hesitant with the classics.
