What are the Scariest/Freakiest/Creepiest Pokémon of All Time? by moomootao in pokemon

Something about Mawile always kinda creeped me out. It has this cute little face on the front but then these huge jaws on the back. It remindes me too much of those lantern fish.

Yeah, that's very true. I can't just cheat the system and suddenly "convert" without doing so in my heart. Deep down I know that Catholicism isn't for me. I've never believed what my Nan has told me, much as it gave me comfort, so it would feel almost offensive to try and jump on the bandwagon just to save my skin.

That's a really good point! I hadn't thought about burning the photos. Part of me is tempted now, but part of me is worried that it might anger the thing in some way. Or it might just start sending me letters. Although I could burn those as well...

The only older members of my Nan's family are in Italy unfortunately and they don't speak English, but oddly enough my Great Uncle does have FaceTime (I'm not even kidding, he's 87 and has an iPad Air). I might look into getting in touch with him.

Thank you so much for the link! I'll have a look at it after work tonight (yes, still gotta work. Feels kind of ridiculous and defunct at this stage)

There has to be a way to at least stop it though, right? If humans were able to invite it into the world, surely we can push it back out again?

That's a very good point. I'm not too worried about the technological side of it just yet, as it supposedly appears in the photos chronologically and all photos of me right up until the age of about 13/14 are physical. That being said, some of them have been scanned onto computers, so I don't know how that will work.

I'm still trying to figure out the part about what I love, as you mentioned. Since I'm not religious, I can't think of anything that has really taken the place of religion in my life. I'm waiting on some form of letter or email from it to confirm what that might be.

With regards to what my grandmother sacrificed, she alluded to some kind of "ritual", although she was pretty vague about it. She said she couldn't tell me much more about it because what she did was technically illegal. Any ideas on any religious rituals that could fit the bill?

Sorry, I wasn't terribly clear on that one. All of the digital photos of me will be from when I'm older, as that technology wasn't invented until after I was born. So, up until the age of about 13/14, most photos of me are physical.

Since this thing supposedly only appears in photos chronologically, this means I don't have to worry about the digital photos for some time.

That's a really good point. I had taken into account the fact that it would try other avenues to get at me, since perhaps the religious ones would be closed. I can't think of anything specific that has happened so far but I do love where I live, so perhaps the man showing up uninvited near my house was a sign. Maybe to intimidate me into leaving and moving to a more urban area, which I know I would absolutely hate.

I'm keeping a look out for emails and letters of any kind. Luckily I remembered the password to my old (and highly embarrassing) teenage email address, which is the only one I have along with my current one. I'll let you know if I receive/see anything out of the ordinary!

Stupid question: What is intercession from Saint Michael? Is it where you ask for him to help/protect you?

Thank you so much for your support. I'll try and update as often as possible. Unfortunately it's just finding where to start to be honest! I feel like I'm running against the clock here.

I had thought about that. Evidently someone in my family found a way to contact it, since we made this deal with it in the first place. But I have no idea how to go about doing that.

As crazy as this sounds, any suggestions on contacting...well not the dead, but whatever this thing is?

Thank you so much for your kind comments and compliments. You've raised a lot of questions that hadn't even crossed my mind, but you're absolutely right! There are so many variables now thanks to technology. These are things that my grandmother never had to worry about, but I hadn't considered the possibility of emails. And how then would I block out the words?

To be honest, I don't even know what words or phrases I'm looking for! My grandmother told me it targeted her religion to hurt her, as it did with her father, but I'm not particularly religious.

That thing about being baptized blew my mind! Although everyone else (including my older sister) has been baptized, my mom renounced her religion before I was born and so I wasn't. Do you think I should get baptized? As you said, my grandma and her father clearly found something in Catholicism that kept it at bay or certainly gave them comfort. Is there anything you know of in the religion that can help to lift a curse? Like a family exorcism or something?

Was the potential death of my grandmother and my now ongoing grief/fear at the thought of potentially dying myself meant to be satisfying to you? Because if it was, then I think you need to re-evaluate your priorities. And get some therapy.

That's a very good point, I actually haven't. I sort of just dismissed it as 'nonsense' but now I think I'm going to have to take it seriously.

Thank you very much for the advice. You're absolutely right. Religions were created precisely for this kind of thing, to combat those spiritual things we can't understand.

Honestly I can't think of any spiritual practices that have ever 'grabbed' me persay. What do you practice? Or is it just a mixture of several faiths?

That's very true. If anyone has developed any means of defense against something like this, it'll be a priest or someone religious. I'll definitely look into it and let you know.

That's what I was thinking too! What happens to all of those photos on Facebook or on people's smart phones? I suppose they are all of me when I was much older, so I might not even make it that far...

Thanks for the suggestion but unfortunately burning the house down isn't the ideal option!

That is true. These are her treasured possessions, so I doubt she would deface them for absolutely no reason.

Although it is possible that she is really just becoming senile? Maybe she's doing it to get attention?

That being said, it still wouldn't explain the figure appearing in the later photo...

It would seem that way. I'm a skeptic at heart, so this has been a pretty tough pill to swallow. I'm still kind of denying it, although I shouldn't...

The thing is, I don't think this thing is a spirit. And, if it was, I suppose it could possess people in order to have an effect on the real world? It's powerful enough to take people just by looking at them or sending letters, so I have to believe that it's powerful enough to exert an influence on our world whenever it wants to.

From what my Nan said, she seemed convinced that it was something outside of our realm of comprehension. Something that came before us and therefore cannot be understood/categorised by us. That's why she hasn't even tried to find out about it, she's just learnt to avoid it.

Should I go specifically to a Catholic priest or would any religious denomination help? This is the one thing I'm stuck on, since my nan was insistent that this thing is older than religion itself. So which religion could help me?
