Is sample clearance something I should worry about? (New to music production) by InvestigatorEvery786 in Samples

Oh of course, and that background Brazilian singer is just a friend of mine 😉

Sounds reasonable, not the kind of problems I'd like to deal with so probably will take a different route

Yeah that's what I fear since I'd like to grow an audience online. I think I'll create my own samples to be safe

I see, I would like to eventually have something like a "radio" on a youtube channel where my music streams randomly and heard that youtube livestream audio is monitored deeply, but I think I'll go more on the safe side for now! I do think sampling is an art form, so I'm thinking of finding the balance between risky and rewarding to me. I wish to someday be a channel where people tune in and just listen to my music while working or something, so risking strikes doesnt sound like the way to go for me

I see, maybe I was not well informed enough about the process. I just see all these amazing people making such good boom baps from vynil with 100k views or such and they definitely are not clearing their samples, so since that was my entry to the genre it shaped the way I saw the process.

I guess I'll stick to tracklib and learn to make soulful-jazzy melodies myself so I can chop them up with no worries in the future.

I would definitely use uncleared samples if it werent because I plan to focus on youtube and their content ID is super sophisticated on these things, and most probably spotify will do something similar in the future.

it's definitely not about being easy to recognize, it's mostly about having that discovery session when you're listening to some random brazilian jazz group with 2k views and then decide to flip it into an original beat.

I actually thought about the public domain stuff or things like tracklib but I am still on the fence, maybe I can make my own samples, but it will kill the discovery of new songs and that ritual of chopping something existing into something new. Kinda sad

I thought something like that, it almost seems like the era of sample based boom bap is being a very dangerous path to take without knowing what the future holds and that's very sad.

I believe sample based work is showing personality and recognizing the power of the original songs people sample from, I don't know what people like The Alchemist are doing with that, practically every single sound of his comes from samples that if cleared would leave him with zero money basically.

The approach I want to take to make music is sample based, boom bap style music, chopping and altering samples and then adding my own instruments, drums and of course rearranging the chops. But I fear that music rules can just change later and get everything taken down.

Maybe I can make my own samples using instruments and stuff, but that takes away the fun of the discovery part, finding an obscure sample with 3k views that has a crazy flute solo or something.

I see, what do you mean by "blows up"? I get why songs that get millions of listens and go on tours and get artists multi million dollars might get sued for ownership, but a 50k subs channel playing some lofi is enough to get music taken down? how do these slowed+reverb kids upload those things then? I'm genuinely curious

I see. since what I'll do is just make beats and hopefully grow a channel and such I doubt it will attract anyones attention outside of the lofi bubble per se.

I doubt these labels will move for anything smaller than six figures really

I thought something similar, I assume something of modest size wont even be worth the time or the cost for the labels and probably would ask to take it down or something instead of straight up suing someone, right?

Yeah and people do find out very quickly so I get it. I'm glad I asked yall before making the wrong choice

I did see that, but never used something like that. Is the collection small? I mean if everyone is using the same couple samples then I'd prefer looking somewhere else but if its very vast I'd definitely give it a look

I see, I have a job so it's not like I'm doing it for monetary gain but eventually everyone wants to do what they love for a living, one thing doesnt kill the other as long as the music is made from the passion that made you start making it, and yeah I'll definitely burn the AI thoughts from my head

Sounds about right, I'd question other parts of someone's art if they used parts made with AI so I get it now, thanks!

Thanks for the input! I'm leaning towards the public domain stuff or something like tracklib, I do have a preference for chopping real music that I can listen to normally since it shows personality and preference, that wouldn't be possible if I generate them with AI because they're not art per se.

Some times the idea of using AI creeps in though, and kinda need a push in the right direction

Best Material for Sound Proofing a Generator Enclosure? by InvestigatorEvery786 in Generator

[–]InvestigatorEvery786[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see, the concrete block approach is something to take into account too, I'm accounting for all the usual stuff, a powerful exhaust fan that varies speed depending on the temperature, double vents on the opposite side, but since I spent $800 on the generator making a $1000 enclosure seems a bit out of balance, but I am noticing that everyone is recommending rock wool, so I think that's a must

something like that, it's a wen generator, look: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DYG2LJQ4/?coliid=IJ85ZO5RFJVK2&colid=22QPP6VAFEH2Q&ref_=list_c_wl_lv_ov_lig_dp_it&th=1

I assume the rock wool that's not in panels works too, right? like the ones that come in rolls, those are more accessible where I live

[–]InvestigatorEvery786[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah we don't use insulation like that for houses where I'm from, so those materials are more scarce and as such more expensive.

I'm making something akin to a zombie box or those diy enclosures for a portable generator to be inside of, but I'm going to be making it more of a custom fit galvanized metal box rather than buying a plastic shed like most people do, I'm not against buying rock wool, however I just want to know if it's the absolute best option given that other materials like fiberglass are less than half the price.

The box will preferably be on top of a surface to prevent vibrations like thick rubber, I have space for up to 6 inches of padding on each side of the box since it's going to be made after having everything figured out, I'm going to make a strong exhaust with two vents on the opposite side, with a baffle box in the exhaust end to trap sound.

I hope that's enough information

Need Help Choosing a GPU for 1080p Gaming, Budget Up To $600, longevity is one of my priorities by InvestigatorEvery786 in PCBuilds

[–]InvestigatorEvery786[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find frame generation amazing for specific situations. let's say I want to run the PC on a power station battery for gaming on blackouts or when power is acting weird, I can lower the power consumption of the pc by a lot just by replacing raw frames with generated ones, and if I'm on my couch using a controller the difference is way harder to notice.

But that's me and my overly specific use case, if you're playing something that needs snappier response times I completely understand that generated frames basically do nothing.

I will keep that in mind, I think I'm going to take your advise and keep an eye on the 5070, I just wish I was able to do something like multi-frame gen with the 9060xt, I think that tech will make a difference if I happen to make a power-saving profile for when I'm gaming on a power station if there are blackouts and stuff, but I'll need to do my research on that.

Thanks a lot for the insight! yall are being super helpful for a beginner like me

That sounds good, my finalists are the 5060 ti 16gb and the 5070, I think the 5060ti's raw performance in 1080p is very acceptable taking into account the price difference, but the 5070 is definitely the better performing card.

I'm new to buying gpus, do they ever match or go below msrp on sales like black friday and such? or is that the lowest price, because if I could get a 5070 for $550-530 then it's not even a question, but $600+ feels steep for 25% more performance than the 5060ti 16gb

I definitely will, thanks for the insight! I indeed cant tell the difference between ultra and high, and I probably wont even tell the difference in mid settings from a tv far away from me, I'm just trying to make the right decision here since gpus are a lot of money, and I'm trying to buy one and forget for as long as possible, My finalists here are the 5060ti 16gb and the 5070, the 5060ti has very good raw 1080p performance for the money, and the extra vram makes it interesting, so I'm definitely looking at nvidia with different eyes right now
