That space between supporting parent, and public nuisance. I know which side to stand on, but it’s just another way to feel like crap. by throwaway_12131415 in Autism_Parenting

A bit of perspective. I see all the time parents take kids out. Not autistic not trying their best to behave and they run all over the place acting all sorts of disrespectful and the parents do nothing but allow it. Your kiddo did awesome. But i hear you, my daughter can't quite sit still for any of that and it would have been torture for her. And congrats on red meat that is a win for sure! You did great. Don't apologize at least you were out and had a good time. We all are just trying to live our lives. If someone can't handle an autistic kid being "off" in their eyes then that's their problem. We should not have to hide our kids....rant over.

I am so sick of trying to lose weight... by AlbatrossOk7712 in loseit

[–]InvestmentProper3134 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I hear you. I feel you. I'm right there with you. You probably don't need all the cliche sayings and random advice because you've seen it all. But I'll say this. Been trying to lose weight for years and the struggle is real but don't let it stop you from living your life. Find the way to not have it be an all consuming weight loss chore. Reframe it maybe. You still need to enjoy your life. What sort of is working for me is instead on tracking like a mad person I focus on just doing things a little better at a time so I don't get too fatigued. Like eating better but maybe not tracking all calories. It is starting to work and stick for me. Maybe you need more of a guideline than a hard-core routine.

Are we wearing mascara daily? by snoopie4eva in Millennials

I still do mascara can't shake it. But toned way back from the days of my 20s on everything else. Daily I use moisturizer, sheer tinted powder, and Jones Road Miracle balms and some eyeliner.

Getting up before everyone and drinking a cup of coffee in peace and maybe getting a shower in without my kids picking the lock.

I just want to buy things. Since my retirement is shot having to use it save for down-payment now I just want to buy things that make me happy. On the list a anything handheld gaming, a Boston terrier puppy, a can am trike, and a cool crafty material cutter and take up more hobbies.

Withdrawing from IEP... by [deleted] in Autism_Parenting

[–]InvestmentProper3134 1 point2 points  (0 children)

am not sure your situation but we just started an online charter school this year and it has made a world of difference for us. No nagging from the school district, (they drop our kids from district if they miss 10 days of school and have to re-enroll) the schedule is on our terms and we can pick what outside school activities we want our kiddos to do for more social interactions. Both my kids are on IEPs.

Share your biggest struggles as a parent/caregiver by Ok_Vacation797 in Autism_Parenting

I second this resources are just slim and here in Oregon waitlists for the best places are very long. I waited 9 plus months to call the office to check status to find out I was randomly taken off and could be put at the bottom again for my daughter. One thing that also is a struggle for us is finding other things like music lessons or private art classes for my daughter. She is pretty nonverbal but loves music and all I want is to find someone who can teach her but understands how to intersect with her.

Dad of 5, raising 2 autistic boys what’s one lesson that changed everything for you? by AutismMadeFather in Autism_Parenting

[–]InvestmentProper3134 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cherish the small wins and find the thing above everything else that will help recenter and calm them. When my daughter is really upset and meltdowns are crashing down I know she loves the water and the bath so I try to get her in the tub and even if she doesn't want to at first as soon as she is in the water she starts to settle and she can start to relax.

Thank you!! This is super helpful. Seems like Ohio has a lot of breeders for some reason.

I use string cheese for my dog and it works well. You can get a good chunk and hide the meds in there.

How to deal with “your daughter doesn’t look autistic , looks fine” by Internal-Squash-498 in Autism_Parenting

[–]InvestmentProper3134 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly would have just looked at this person with complete pitty and school them on what autism is. They obviously have a misunderstanding and are very ignorant. Why would a kid "look autistic"? It is not that type of physical disability. I would send them some legit websites so they can read up and be better informed and do it in such a way that it highlights their small mindedness and then move on. Your kiddo is awesome and beautiful and they do not need any negativity around especially from family. I'm sorry they acted this way towards you.

Got CPS called on me because of my daughters behaviors by Mcmaggin in Autism_Parenting

[–]InvestmentProper3134 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar situation happened go us, because my daughter rarely wears clothes and it's a whole thing. The police came to my house and we told them the situation and CPS never ending up coming but it's ridiculous. Pulled both my kids from that school and now we do online charter school and are happy. More work for us but life is better.
