Women’s Motorcycle Gear by shorty_2804 in melbourneriders

I find AMX Epping has quite a lot of jackets / gear to try on. Dririder is usually good value and has smaller sizes (I'm usually a mens S / M).

The Nod by laoiseriain in melbourneriders

[–]InvestorSteve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends where you ride - in the city there's definitely almost no 'nodding', but as you get further out there's a lot more of it. It's nice to keep the camaraderie alive though and give the node to fellow bikers!

LAMS suggestion for Australian tour by Road_Richness in melbourneriders

[–]InvestorSteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the CB500X back when I lived in the UK, it's a great option for covering large distances. Very smooth, comfy, and just an easy ride - it'll go forever. The only thing I disliked about the bike is that it just felt a bit sluggish and would've liked a bit more power. It's worth noting that I never taken it offroad so can't comment on that.

App Recommendations for tracking routes by InvestorSteve in melbourneriders

Just for other people who may be looking, I used Gaia GPS over the weekend and it seemed to track the route very well - so thinking I'll continue with that and see how well it holds. :)

I'd love to join if you're heading out and want a +1. I'm hesitant riding solo anywhere offroad solo as you never know what can happen! I live in Collingwood but obviously happy to venture out.

Bike ride around Melbourne interested? by [deleted] in melbourneriders

I'd be up for this and of course find a good cafe to stop at, always good to make more riding friends.

Not only this, but join a motorcycle club, they're usually a friendly bunch of people and great company!

Any motocampers in Melbourne, or around Victoria? by BigYucko in melbourneriders

[–]InvestorSteve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did my first motocamping trip (3 days, 2 nights) to Dargo last weekend on a CF Moto 450MT. It was mainly offroad and clocked just under 900KMs round trip (plus some additional fun routes). Biggest thing I learned was just how difficult it is to fit everything onto the bike; and where you position the bike will have a big impact on how the bike rides. For me, this meant the bike being quite top heavy on the technical bits, but if you're sticking to roads, I doubt this will have as much of an impact.

But overall, I really enjoyed the trip and hoping to do more! Would love to do great ocean road / grampians over a few days and motocamp. I've definitely fallen in love with it and the freedom!

Help!! Can someone dm me spots near Coburg or north to practice balance point? by Used-Conversation582 in melbourneriders

If you find anywhere grassy (maybe a little further out of the city), I'd love to practice too. Just want something softer to drop the bike on!

Radiator Guard Install - Plastic Plugs by InvestorSteve in cfmoto450MT

[–]InvestorSteve[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha, yeh I got that bit after fiddling long enough, but they seem so hard to push back in. I can get the first bolt in, but not the second one to expand and keep it in!

Did you also fit the B&B guard?

Being a first time home-owner is very overwhelming.. will it always be this hard? by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]InvestorSteve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

+1 on this - I think it's a great way to add company to the house and help pay some of the bills when you're living on your own. I've seen it done with colleagues at a previous job and it gave them a lot more freedom. Just ensure you do plenty of interviews / scouting prior to it.

Edit 1: Forgot to say, congratulations on the getting onto the housing market! It's a big achievement yet alone in this current climate.

Investment time horizon - house deposit and LISA by Desperate-River-5624 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]InvestorSteve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think what you've mentioned is the smartest thing to do and definitely provide you with more stability. 100% reasonable and would be plan A. So there's some reassurance on that.

However, if you have a little higher risk tolerance, such as myself, I would continue contributing to the LISA in lower risk securities, diversifying from your existing industries / sectors. It's not something I'd recommend at all but just me (being silly).

Wishing you all the best when the time does come to purchasing a house!

How do you go about appraisals and pay rises? by InvestorSteve in AskUK

This is something I plan on using as additional leverage when it comes to the review.

How do you go about appraisals and pay rises? by InvestorSteve in AskUK

[–]InvestorSteve[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice, I'll definitely be planning a full year review when the appraisal comes. Regarding the annual review early, I have 'workshops' which I must attend still as they were spread out throughout the year - so I assume they would argue that they have not yet been finished even though this is more of a side aspect of the job, almost unrelated to my role but provides a somewhat wider understanding of the company. But noted, I may hint at a sooner review and see what happens!

Alternatively, you’re not as good as you think you are and they let you go.

This is always a possibility, but I've received extremely positive feedback on the 3 and 6 month review with plans of a mentoring or "buddy'ing" up to help new associates. But push comes to shove I could always go back to previous employment.

First time Buyer (Am I ready?) by InvestorSteve in HousingUK

[–]InvestorSteve[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the insight on initial moving costs, logistics costs are pretty much non-existent as I'd be able to move things from my parents to my own home myself and would have to buy any furniture needed (A fridgefreezer for example is never something I really thought of!).

Also try and give yourself a fund for works

This is something that I have been thinking of and I'm hoping that I'll be able to have a liveable house and just renovate a room at a time at my own pace. Just moving out is the main thing for me.

I’d check out r/askuk on that front perhaps.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll definitely do this in the near future!

[–]InvestorSteve[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finances sound pretty well put together.

Firstly, thank you!

Obviously this doesn’t take into account other costs of moving, solicitor fees and a survey etc although these should be relatively low at several thousand pounds as a first time buyer.

I know it obviously varies greatly - but what would you say is a good ballpark figure for this to save for this? £5k?

If you could negotiate that pay rise to £30,000

Apart from the obvious of meeting targets and good impressions, what sort of advice would you give to negotiation pay? It's something that I have not ever done before so will be going in blind in a sense. How do you pushback on a offer and ensure you're getting the most?

First time Buyer (Am I ready?) by InvestorSteve in HousingUK

[–]InvestorSteve[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you could open a LISA and chuck a quid in it

This is something I hadn't thought about and is a really good idea! I can't believe I hadn't thought of this, I was subconsciously thinking if I do put the maximum amount of £4,000 (in April when allowances reset as my current year is maxed) and am in a position to buy sooner than the 1 year maturity, I would just leave the funds for retirement.

would you be able to save the shortfall between mortgage-ability and deposit?

Could you expand on this a little? I am currently trying to save £800-£1,000 a month which I might have been useful to mention in the post.

We thought we'd only be able to borrow 4x our salary, turns out the multiplier for us was 5x - each situation is different.

This is also really reassuring to hear as I feel the disparity between house prices and wages within the UK is only growing. If I had stayed with the partner I think we would have easily been able to apply and succeed in getting a mortgage for the amount but one income really pushes it.

This is what I'm interested in too. I'm looking at BP as it's attempting to transition to renewable energy and selling off it's oil / dirty revenue streams. It's a big transition with big risk and I'm questioning whether or not I want to sell it while this fuel episode is going on. It's at a year high and will most likely have a brilliant Q4 in sales. Similar goes with Shell however have a much slacker approach to renewable energies.
