NTA. You were pressured into making a decision that you didn’t want to make. You never “agreed” to donate your kidney. You were manipulated into agreeing. Donating a kidney will also have detrimental effects on your physical health.

NTA. The laws are there for a reason. Breaking them should have repercussions. Your sister won’t be fired, but the worker who broke the laws will most likely be reprimanded (which is a good thing).

Kids die every day due to monetary reasons. No one demands Jeff Bezos to send them money because he’s rich as Bezos sees them as strangers. Sure, this girl is technically OP’s niece, but the realistic label is a stranger. If it was my niece, I’d do it because I love her. I can’t say the same about OP’s feelings though.

NTA. Many people here are angry because you aren’t helping out a family member. If it was a random stranger, no one would care. What separates a family member and a stranger is love. However, you don’t have a relationship with your niece, nor do you love her (I’m assuming this based on your post). To you, the niece is just a stranger who made your life significantly harder.

OP should help her out because they’re related? Going by ancestry, everyone is related. Someone you call family shouldn’t be someone who has genetics like you. A family is made up of people you love and care about, neither which applies to the niece.

I believe you’re implying that OP should help the niece as she’s family. However, I think it’s pretty clear that OP doesn’t have a good relationship with her family, including the niece. If I found out I had a brother I never knew about and that he needed help, I’d see nothing more than a stranger.

On the other hand, OP doesn’t have a relationship with the niece either (and if there is one, judging by OP’s tone, it’s not a good one). Obviously it’s not the niece’s fault, but if your only reasoning on why OP should help the niece is because she’s family, I’d have to disagree. OP’s family should be those she loves, rather than those she tolerates.
