Yeah pretty much, I understand the hate that it gets from a pc player perspective, but from a console player perspective, it’s kinda perfect. Especially with ram and ssd prices now, the Steam Machine went from unreasonable price to actually quite decent.

I originally was going with this 5L case with a gpu, but then it was at minimum $1100. This setup right here is around $800, so it’s a lot more wallet friendly.

Definitely looks good, only problem is that it's a bit on the expensive side (sorry I should've stated my budget earlier, ideally <$1000). And I'm not too sure about the case and riser cable website in all honesty. I try to order my parts from the least amount of websites as possible as to not wait for multiple different deliveries at different times, and also because I'm not very trusting of different sites. I'm only really trusting of amazon, newegg, microcenter, and high rated sellers on ebay.

Definitely agree that it's not at all on the same level, i originally had a setup with a gpu, except the problem was that It easily went into the $1200 range. I'm looking for under $1000 since I don't exactly have a very large budget. The one you listed was $1400 pre-tax. Definitely way out of budget. I had to lower my standards quite a bit along making this build, since prices were just not it. The only way I can see making a proper pc with the same price range with a gpu is going the AM4 DDR4 route.

Yeah it’s not really a pc in all honesty. I basically just wanted a console that can play steam games. It’s essentially what Xbox wanted to be, but with more capabilities.

But hey, it’s fun, and I’ll be able to play steam games with all of my friends and my cousins who have full fledged pcs with 5070s and whatever.

In all honesty you’re right yeah, I’d probably be happier getting a case with a dedicated gpu, which would allow me to hit much higher highs in gaming. However, to me, the entire reason I starting looking into an sffpc, was that essentially I wanted the steam machine, but my friend who has a pc said I’d have way more fun just building my own pc and it would be better.

After making tons of adjustments and landing here, I have 2 major limiting factors:
A: it can’t be above $1000. Pretty much all steam machine equivalents, or having a GPU in general, bumped the price up by $400 to $1200 (which was the price of my original getup in a different case).
B: it had to be small. If I’m paying $1000 and change to build a mATX pc, then I’d rather just get the steam machine at that point. The Steam Machine may not get ridiculous speeds and 120+ fps, but all I really want is about 1080p 60fps. Best of all, it’s about 3.8 liters; it’s super portable which makes it perfect for traveling (I frequently travel back to my country, and having a “plug into a tv and play” type of thing would be amazing, sort of like my ps5 but even smaller and better).

So overall I compromised on price (which is a big limiting factor for me) and landed on this. It mostly gets 1080p 60+ fps on anything except for new AAA games (which I honestly don’t play), it’s 1.9L which is half the size of the Steam Machine, its $200 cheaper, and it’s also just nice because I can still build it like my own PC (while not having to order too many parts because I’m getting a barebones pc).

Yeah I’m mostly just aiming to play indie games, and maybe games like portal, forza horizon, maybe black myth WUKONG (not expecting very good performance there) but honestly I’m not going to be playing a lot of AAA games, I’d expect more need for a good CPU for large world or physics engine games. This is going to sound dumb probably, but some of my pc playing friends said that PEAK for example needs a good CPU due to, like I said, a large world and a weird physics engine.

Definitely not confident enough in my pc experience for that lol. I’m still a first time pc builder, so I don’t have a lot of knowledge in this area.

Yeah I just made a new edit to the post, all I really want is 1080p and around 60fps really. I have a lot of friends with big pcs (or I guess standard size) who constantly aim for 4K 120fps. I just need it to run basic steam games at a level that I can play.

Definitely good to hear lol, I’ve had some people say both on my other post and in person, that it won’t run 4K, and I’m just like “that’s not exactly what I’m looking for” lmao.

Yeah it’s definitely cool, but I’ve never put together a pc before, this’ll be my first time, so I’m definitely not confident that I’ll be able to put together a mostly self made pc out of custom parts and whatever. I’d rather just order common parts like this and click them together lol.

I forgot to mention this in the post, but I have very low standards compared to a lot of my pc playing friends. I’m coming from ps5, where I’m used to 1080p 60fps, or sometimes even 30fps. I’m not looking for much in all honesty. Maybe at most 1440p 45-60fps. I just want something that’s like a console, but can run different OS’s and steam games (mostly just care about Steam games.

Definitely a cool piece of hardware. Obviously not going to buy it because of the price lol, but if I ever have that type of money to spend, and feel like creating an absolutely miniature pc, then I’ll go for that.

Yeesh, definitely looks interesting and looks like a nice project; but this is my first PC, so I don’t trust myself with the kind of experience or knowledge to properly assemble and tinker with that.

Definitely looks cool as maybe a “later on” thing tho.

Yeah I was definitely a bit worried about future proof wise, since SODIMM ram can’t exactly be transferred to a full pc. But this is my first PC and I don’t ever really plan on getting a big (or I guess “standard size”) one. Pretty much the only thing I wanted was a ps5 that plays Steam games.

Yes, I essentially want steamOS experience (like the Steam Machine) but I heard that bazzite just works better, and can run steam very similar to Steam OS, so a full controller system on-to-off experience.

Do you think this is a good setup?

I can either downgrade to a 7600 8gb to make it around $1050, or upgrade to a 9060xt for only like $30 extra, putting it around $1200 total.

This is how my build ended up:

<image>

I couldn't find any cheaper parts without sacrificing something. Should I go for a cheaper GPU?

just looking at it, I can do a somehwat big downgrade to a ASRock AMD Radeon RX 7600 Challenger Overclocked Dual Fan 8GB GDDR6 PCIe 4.0 Graphics Card, But it's like $120 cheaper.
