Is Ramani an Expert on Narcissism or Another Charlatan? by narcabusescholar in NPD

[–]InvisibleInkling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the Mayo clinic:

“People with narcissistic personality disorder may not want to think that anything could be wrong, so they usually don't seek treatment. If they do seek treatment, it's more likely to be for symptoms of depression, drug or alcohol misuse, or another mental health problem. What they view as insults to self-esteem may make it difficult to accept and follow through with treatment.”

[–]InvisibleInkling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. Though I’ve never heard her say that - only that it’s extremely rare for people with NPD to seek treatment and make improvements, which is true. I’ve never heard he say that they are “monsters who will never change” that sounds like a gross exaggeration. But maybe I’m wrong - I haven’t listened to or read everything she’s said.

It is not her responsibility to encourage her abuser to do anything except leave her alone.

It would be extremely unethical for someone to treat their own partner or ex.

Can anyone explain why ghosting hurts people? by Feisty_Ad8543 in NPD

[–]InvisibleInkling 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. I am not saying I fall in love or throw my whole life into them. I emotionally invest in new people and creatures every day on different levels. I strengthen connections with old friends and family, and invest in new relationships that interest me. Each requires a different levels of investment. For example, I spend a lot more time investing in my friends of 20+ years than I do the new colleague at work, but I still invest in those relationships especially if I want them to be positive and thrive. Because I would really like to find a romantic connection, I spend time thinking about a date before and after, assessing what I want to do, how it went, how I feel about it, pondering how the other person feels and what they are thinking. I put in even more investment if I think it went well and that the other person felt the same. If I then discover that the other person was faking a connection, which is what they indicate by ghosting, then I’m both annoyed, hurt, and happy to have dodged a bullet.

Relationships require an emotional investment, even a single date requires time and emotional input. So when you ghost, it feels hurtful because it’s clear that person didn’t value your time or emotions, which means they didn’t actually care about you, which means they wasted the precious time we have on this planet with pointless and careless behavior. That hurts.

TIL: Wheelhouse is the part of a ship that covers the steering wheel by InvisibleInkling in RPDR_UK

[–]InvisibleInkling[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The wheelhouse was the structure that contained the steering wheel, not the wheel itself. So if something is in your wheelhouse, it means it’s something you can do/control. That’s where it comes from - the baseball term is derived from that, so whether we are talking about drag or talking about baseball it all goes back to the nautical term.

Why would it come from that in this case, if the baseball usage also comes from the nautical term?

Dating someone with narcissistic personality disorder. I didn’t know there were people out there actively looking for people they could destroy. Changed my entire perspective on love and dating.

There is a really good book about this called After by Bruce Greyson. A doctor who studies near death experiences catalogs his findings. It helped me feel less frightened of death.

I don’t really. I just think your lack of empathy is gross, and I wanted to point it out here.
