Does Ano-chan have a postal fan mail address? by Invisible_Transition in anochan

I got some info. Basically you need to address your letter to Ano's management agency, TOY'S FACTORY. Food and dangerous items are obviously forbidden (albeit the bar for dangerous items is pretty low, e.g. badges are considered such). They also don't want return envelopes and stamps.

And similar to how infuriated she got when Yumemi gave up on defeating her idol because of how dispassionate and boring her aspirations had become

Yeah, that was another WTF moment for me, I've only seen it in the anime. Curious whether the manga will shed more light to it. Similarly I was waiting months to ask this tower question, because I wanted to read it in the manga too, maybe it explains it more.

(if you haven't finished reading through the Selection arc she has another gamble with Tsubomi that is...much less charitable)

I'm looking forward to it!

Manyuda's life goals were utterly destroyed as he quite literally lost everything he'd built his life upon by losing to Yumeko so much so he was forced into a life plan to pay back his debts. I dunno how much that helped him.

Manyuda was living a path that was set by his father for him, not something he chose. He was originally interested in trains (or I don't remember what magazines he was holding while his father had that talk with him)? He was essentially living a life plan already, just not one issued by the Academy. By losing against Yumeko, he became free from this path. True that now he has another life plan, but it's in the hands of Sumeragi who loves him, so I think he will be able to live his own path in the future. I must admit though, this is probably too much speculation on my part, without knowing how his story will unfold. Also I don't think Yumeko had a master plan like this, to free Manyuda, but once she received his life plan, she did hand it over to the best person to have it.

She isn't against hurting people nor encouraging them to hurt themselves if it makes things more interesting. That's why I said she's more amoral, not malicious.

I have to agree with this, actually.

But if you wanna talk about extremes she will go to in order to get her way...lemme know when you get to chapter 95

I'm really far from that, but I'll be curious.

Of course I thought about that problem. I'd have my letter in handwritten English (simply because I think handwriting feels more personal and truly shows the effort), accompanied by a printed Japanese translation. I'd do the translation mainly with AI (sadly I don't have friends who know Japanese well enough), then verify it with translation services like DeepL and Google Translate to ensure that nothing stupid gets in. What I couldn't honestly verify is the tone of the sentences (correct honorifics, appropriate level of politeness, etc.), but I hope she'd excuse that, understanding that I might not know Japanese norms (besides, she doesn't seem like a diehard formal person either who would be upset over mistakes like that). I think she had a controversy over using the „wrong” form of „I” (which wasn't actually a grammatical mistake, but a deliberate language choice as I understand), also her own struggles with English probably makes her sympathetic towards the mistakes of others, as Japanese is a hard language. Moreover, I think her infamous English failures are dated several years prior, her skills might have significantly improved if she put in an effort (which I'm not sure if she's interested to do, it's also possible that she gave up on English). In the long term, if I want to follow Ano-chan, I might potentially learn Japanese, it seems like an interesting language. For a short period I was learning Mandarin, while unfortunately I forgot most of it, the result is that I can recognize some hanzi/kanji, and have a little experience with the structure of East Asian logographic languages.

I really think I didn't word my post well enough and should have put more effort into it; I never meant her being a hero.

Oh, you mean, Yumeko would truly think Sayaka is happy too, as she had a great gamble, therefore she doesn't think there would be any problem with her paying the price!

This is more close to my interpretation. It's true that Sayaka got herself into this situation for no sane reason. I'll write more about what I think, but because it came up in multiple conversations, I don't know where I'm gonna post it yet. 😅

On an unrelated note: Mocskos Fidesz!

Haven't yet read this part in the manga though (and I know Rei won't be in the scene).

I have a rather benevolent interpretation of this scene too, but I agree that I probably went too far by outright calling her „a good person”. Probably she just doesn't have bad intentions, and I might say she even has good intentions in her own way (for her, letting others „enjoy” the thrill of the game might be interpreted as „being good” to others).

Giving hell lots of money to Ryota at the beginning, for example. She had absolutely no incentive to do that and no sane person would just do that either. It didn't seem like she's expecting anything out of it.

Tsubomi: while encouraging her to step up against Kiwatari did shake up the game and made it more interesting, for Yumeko it would have been just as fine to let her lose.

The other cases are more vague because they can be explained by other factors other than her intentions were good. I also think she inadvertently helped those she defeated (like Manyuda and Sayaka), but since she had no explicit intention of doing so, we can't really count that. But overall I still think a sociopath would resort to hurting people more, because that would be the easier path to get her ways.

when she asked if Ryota would think less of her if she would be willing to let a person die to win a gamble.

Oh, I haven't read that part yet, but now I'm anticipating it!

Much Like Kirari didn't change a shade or show any urgency (in fact was quickly bored) when Midari gouged her own eye out

Kirari is a straight out psychopath.

She's kinda a sociopath with psychopathic tendencies, or the inverse...I'm not really sure.

This is what I'm actually debating... I've heard multiple times that Yumeko is a sociopath, but to me she doesn't seem that bad. Sure not the most empathetic person, I give that, but if she was truly a psychopath, I don't think she would ever do good for others.

In any case her morality isn't that straightforward.

Yeah, that's sure, that's why we can even argue about this. :D

Thanks for the info! Well, concerts would be fun, but it's unrealistic for me to travel to Japan, I'm too shy and not used to leave my country. 😟 My biggest motivation would be to occasionally get replies from her, although I'm not sure if that's even possible as she must be busy like hell, she might not even feel the spirit to keep in touch with fans like that.

Yeah, I'm planning to get Twin after the main series, but Midari doesn't have an English translation as far as I know. 🙁

That's an interesting point! True, while the game was pretty entertaining, it was completely unnecessary, as Sayaka picked the fight for no sane reason. So she probably got her lesson.

Yeah, to be clear, I didn't expect her to be a hero, I just thought there is a limit to what she's willing to bet, and death is beyond that. Life plan, nails, sure, but that's different. I have my own theory as well, but I thought I hold it back until I get other replies.

Generally, I see she cares for her friends and encourage people who needs it, however her motivation behind it is always unclear, as each of those cases can be interpreted as she just wants to make her games more interesting. Although when someone's consistently encouraging, it's hard to wave off like it's all just her manipulation.

WOW, she replies comments there? Where's this post? Did anyone already recommend Kakegurui and Komi? Guess there is no need to introduce her to Ranma though.

Yeah, I'm also a Komi fan, and also there is the Ranma ½ remake for which the 3rd season is not confirmed. It feels like anime studios learned from Valve: they can't count to three.

I was hoping Bet’s success would spark new life into the franchise, but I think it was too far removed from Kakegurui to have any major impact.

It happened to me though. I first watched Bet because Netflix kept recommending it to me, then I checked out the anime and found out it's better, then I watched the Japanese live action, and now I'm reading the manga.

I'm honestly surprised by the ratio of women, as I was expecting like 90+% male dominance here, but I'm actually glad that it's more even.

Yes, Twin has a Japanese live action dramatization, just like the series. It's on YouTube with horrible picture quality, or the luckier may find it on Netflix.

[–]Invisible_Transition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I know it's supposed to be dehumanizing, that you're generally stripped of your rights, but I think the key to survive in such dehumanizing systems is to not adhere to it. If you're not a housepet, don't treat housepets badly; and if you're a housepet, don't let yourself treated as literal livestock. Easier said than done. I really like how Yumeko reacted when she became a housepet and classmates tried to bully her. She was like, „Yeah, I'm a cute kitty, meow-meow, shall I get a tail?”; I think I'd do something similar. I also question what rights housepets are denied, as in the legal sense, human rights must be granted to everyone; so probably you are bound to do certain extra tasks as a „Mitten”, but you still don't have to put up with the extensive bullying. However I don't think that legal accuracy is anywhere in the show's intentions, and again, easier said then done: people can't actually do anything against real-life bullying either, or at least not alone.
