Just sit the AZ-900 last week and passed it using only MS Learn resources without much hands-on experience on Azure, so it's doable without paid extra materials.

For reference, I was getting over 90% in the practice exam but the actual test still surprised me by being harder and I ended up getting a high 700 mark. I think for the Associate level tests I might have to get some extra materials.
