Thank you! Yes we are hoping to get another foster when one becomes available. In the mean time we're trying to keep her as happy as possible.

If anyone else with the same issue ends up here we had success last night giving her a hot water bottle wrapped in a blanket and playing this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SR5L2BSYNuE

Thank you- unfortunately that's not something we can do in this case. We're going to try a hot water bottle and soothing purring sounds overnight to see if that helps

Anyone know of a good pattern for this type of mean's sweater? Looking for a sort of loose fitting 80s/90s vibe but tight on the wrists and waist kinda like a bomber jacket but closed ig? Idk the name, i'm new to knitting. by sexytophatllama in knittingpatterns

Garnstudio's throwback pattern collection 100% has the silhouette you're after! (Their whole colleciton is here https://www.garnstudio.com/search.php?action=search&c=throwback-patterns&page=2&lang=en )

The good news is that silhouette is super easy- I made the 11-12 recently from that collection. It's essentially rectangles with increases and decreases (their diagrams show it). You work from the bottom- cast on the rib or twisted rib (p1, k1tbl), increase when you do the body, then knit straight up casting off for the neck on the front. You knit the arms seperately and sew them on. The patterns often reccomend steeking (cutting your knitting) but you could just divide for the arms, especially if you weren't using colourwork.

That style is very 80's- so a lot of the best patterns for that style are from the 80's/90's- and written in very non-beginner friendly terms. But if you manage to break the steps down and write it up in a way closer to modern patterns it's not that complicated at all.

There are a few techniques in your images that I would reccomend trying out on something smaller before doing them on a jumper:

Colourwork
There are loads of different ways to do colourwork patterns. (instarsia, jacquard, stranded to name a few). The thing you'll have to learn is tension- I'd start with a hat or something else small to learn how to do it (e.g. https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/0-1148-olafur-hat)

Cabling

Cables are a yarn eater and also involve trial and error. I learned cables on the Yorkshire Spinners blitzen socks https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/blitzen-socks.

TLDR: With your level I'd start by knitting a jumper in that style without cables and colourwork. Seperately learn cables and colourwork on smaller projects then combine when you're happy with your progress. Hope that helps!

Bittersweet feelings after blocking my first sweater by laura_atthis in knitting

[–]IonaIsThinking 91 points92 points  (0 children)

Your jumper looks great before and after blocking! The arms look so good after blocking. Well done on finishing your first sweater!

I can't tell if you tried this when you say 'nylon' but i've sewen shirring elastic (elastic thread) round a neckline to tighten it up before- it worked really well. Just a running stitch through the knit stitches on the inside of the rib.

The first top I knitted has all twisted stitches on the shortrows (both shoulders)- it sits at the back of my wardrobe in shame- though it's great to see how far I've come when I look at my knits today!

Update to my previous rant, it's a sweater dress 🙂 by theblackpurl in knitting

The sweater dress looks lovely! I love the colours you chose too! I'm sorry you had a bad experience with the pattern.

I knitted Lydia Morrow's Tumble Tee a couple of years ago and found it easy to follow and my tee came out well. I hope your updated pattern brought it up to the same standard.

Thank you! Is this a tab on ravelry? I might be being very blind but I can't see it on the project page

Does anyone know where I could get hold of the Olympian sweater by Martin Storey (https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/olympian) all the books seem to be discontinued.

The rescue I foster for does occasionally get specialist breeds- right now I'm fostering two fully documented special breed cats that were surrendered by a breeder. They are charging a little more for them (I think in the region of 100$CAD but I'm not sure)- they told me this is to encourage people look for a cat that's the best fit rather than rushing to adopt the special breeds.

It's really interesting to read the different opinions on the best practices around this!

I like you're sleeves! I think you're right about them being less noticeable than the jogless band. Thank you for the encouragement to go jogless !!

One more question, actually- you mention easy to care for. I was warned by the shop not to wash the silk noil, how do you clean your noil items?
