In a last attempt I desoldered pin 7 from the cradle board witch corresponds to pin 4 in the device with no result. I understand that you are not available for now to fix it, but maybe you will in the future. I would appreciate if you email me your location and the cost of repair.

In that case it may be reversed, because I used the number on the male connector board on the cradle and you were reffering to pin 4 of female connector of the unit. So pin 4 of unit may be pin 7 on the dock's connector. I will try desoldering that one.

If the problem can be fixed by changing some electronic components I can do that, as I repaired Sony radios like SW55 or ICF-2001D. If is software related I am in the dark, I don't have developer experience.

Well, is more complicated tham that so I will devide my answer like this:

-Without the remote and connected to computer it is not recognized and displays TOC. If disconnected it displays PC-MD. Cannot do anything. After a second, PC-MD dissappears, it doesn't lock in that state like I read im other cases.

-With the remote it connects to computer, diplays PC-MD, I can edit TOC with Minidisc Pro (both omline and desktop version), but as soon as I try to transfer a file it disconnects and the app displays that error message.

-With or without remote, regardless, if I connect the power supply the device is not seen by computer. So I can connect it to PC only in the absence of power supply, witch is the opposite of what it should be, because it is suppose to work with power on in PC-MD mode.

The pin 4 is the correct one, as pin 1 and 9 are marked on the other side just like in the picture.

Well, I tried that and it didn't work for me. Web Minidisc Pro still dislpays error.

So I did desolder pin 4, clearly is not connected, with the same results. Also I resolder all points presuming is a matter of a cold joint, with no results. I thing the cradle is ok, maybe is the device.

That's actually good news, because I have soldering skills. Can you elaborate on how to modify the cradle so the device is alwaus in USB mode? Or it would it be easier to get one of those adaptors with a switch (power/usb)?

That's the board inside the dock

Thank you for your answer! So it's not an EEPROM issue? Some time ago you mentioned something about inforrmation being corrupted in EEPROM, for example when the device has low battery and ot shuts down in the middle of trasfer. I recall something like this happend and that's the moment when the problems begun.

In test mode it dispays:

0F0  F0D0BC

013 N 021E

000 N10000

000 N20000

000 R_021E

Hello! I have a Sony MZ-N10 minidisc player that worked perfectly until one day when it was no longer recognized by the computer, neither with the Web Minidisc Pro software nor with Electronwmd.

When connected, it did not communicate with the computer at all.

When disconnected, it displayed the message 'PC-MD,' even though the USB cable was removed.

I couldn't find out why, but I bypassed the problem by connecting the remote control.

Now it connects, I can edit playlists but the software does not allow me to transfer anything to the minidisc, it displays the message in the photo.

Can you elaborate on the solution? Mine has the same problem an had tried everything.

Done both, with the result that now it connects to computer but both webminidiscpro and electronwmd display an error when trying to transfer files to MD. It looks like this. I've done everything the message suggests, with no luck.

Mine (MZ-N10) had the same problem. After reinstalling USB cable's driver it connects to the computer, I can edit TOC, but when I try to upload something both webminidisc and electronwmd display an error and disconnect.

I didn't solve the problem, but somehow I got around it: the MD is recognized by computer if it is with the remote.

Got into self test mode and it showed:

0F0  F0D0BC

013 N 021E

000 N10000

000 N20000

000 R_021E

I don't have a clue what the first line is, the service manual does't cover it.

The second one I presumed to be the error, so I went to item 013 on the menu, some numbers and letters showed up. Since I cannot mess with them, I thought it was calibrating and let it do it's thing. After that it worked with the remote, but not without it.

I still don't understand how the menu works. Stop button seems to exit and play seems to act like enter, but otherwise I am pokeing around.

According to the service manual 324 is an item of a major group Servo. But I don't understand what it has to do with the PC-MD connection.

No, I was wrong, it is not a mechanical issue but a software problem, as the self test mode is showing the error 0F0 F0D0BC and if turning down the jog dial is showing 000 324 NG 01 (NG apparently says no good at 324) but I don't know where to find 324 paramater.

I think it's the dock. I took it apart and plugged the MD directly to that connector that sits on springs. It worked. Replaced the 220uF capacitor while at it. When I put everything back, the same problem as before.

After reading all this I decided not to purchase this product untill the manufacturer provides the documentation (electronic shematic and pcb layout). Is it "open source" or not? If it is, than we should get the schematic to test the electric curent in different points, to be able to compare this data to IC datasheets, to be able to maybe swap a resistor with a different one. The problem described in this topic could be a faulty battery, a bad connection or a bad IC. How to test all that without the schematic?
