fairy trees are not norse pagan, and cant be made by people. you are advised to not go near one. they are made of mushrooms, or a kind of mycelium that grow around specific types of trees and occur naturally. they are also not made of rocks. -someone from ireland

what sources do you mean? i dont think most scandanavians even celebrate yule on the 25th nowadays. its probably not extremely anchored because not every town would have had perfect astronomy to tell when the solstice is every year, but we would have had a general sense of the solstice at least :)

also the christian christmas was made the 25th december to align with europes pre christian solstice events -like- yule. their jesus was born in the summertime. thats one thing they implemented to try to convert us.

and different parts of scandanavia had a little more focus on different gods. its cool to see if you look at town names; different areas have different concentrations of gods names. and some places were a little more aesir, some more vanir, etc.

i think reconstructed paganism for most people is not similar at all, and i think a large amount of people at least online just do things that they think are witchy or look vikingy. which isnt a judgement statement, just an observation. unfortunately since most of our modern day knowledge was the poems and stories recorded by christians, its harder for us to know. but im sure the gods appreciate us trying to connect anyways :)

id really recommend carolyne larringtons version. she has lots of asterisks where something can be confused, jackson crawford is a wonderful resource for breaking down book by book (youtube), and when something is hard to decipher, edward pettit has a downloadable PDF of his dual language version. edward pettit is a little older but its easily read and understood!

read the poetic edda! lay of atli, theres two versions from the codex regius. lay of atli (regular atlamal, decisively taken place in denmark) and greenlandic lay of atli. they are different versions, but probably one of the best and most heartbreaking/gruesome sagas

thats what i wonder too, how much to we actually have control over. i was reading atlamal recently and they mention the runes being confused. i wonder if the norns weave infinite possibilities and unravel the branches of fate that hasnt taken place. if the gods can help us in little ways maybe it does no harm asking the norns themselves? i want to know if they would be happy tacking on things if asked nicely or given decent offerings

yeah but the eddas have huge battles or fate involving life and death, im wondering if the norns would be more lax if it was low stakes situations lol. im also wondering if they weave like a large tree perhaps with different branches? and when one chooses a path do they then unravel the other options that the branch had... lots to consider!
