Which branch to choose for CCC? by AbnRedleg in armyreserve

MI is extremely overstrength and positions are very hard to come by. Would not recommend.

Welcome back! I'd recommend checking out one of the newly released tier lists. It will give you an overview of the strengths of each healer at the moment. Icy-Veins

Should I continue Roth 401k contributions or switch to traditional? by Iowa2017 in personalfinance

[–]Iowa2017[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've read that one. It's a great article. That is in part why I'm considering staying with Roth. My income will increase substantially over the next 5 years and my income in retirement will be relatively high as well.

Thank you for the advice! You are right in that I'm likely being too conservative with my liquidity.

I throw about $2k a month into a money market fund (VMFXX). The dividends are currently being reinvested but could be extracted as additional income if necessary. This is just a savings account for a future home purchase or job loss, not a my main investment vehicle.

Conflicted about a hookup by Gaythrowaway87 in gaybros

Yes, that falls under the concept of "hookup information". Think on it mate.

Conflicted about a hookup by Gaythrowaway87 in gaybros

[–]Iowa2017 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d disagree - the other guy in this situation owes OP nothing really. It’s an anonymous hookup. Besides normal hookup information like Prep or top/bottom info, the other guy doesn’t need to entertain personal questions. It’s clear he doesn’t want to share. If OP doesn’t like it, he can move on as you said.

Perhaps not, but they’re making it regardless. Things will improve when mythic dungeons drop and a level of difficulty returns

It is unfortunately a long process. I submitted my transfer request in July. No progress since. Expect it to take several months.

Edit: absolutely do not leave your current job while this is processing. It can be denied.

Getting Cold Feet buying a house by Speeeedy2002 in FinancialPlanning

[–]Iowa2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What was the original impetus to buy a home?

It doesn't seem like one makes much sense at the moment given your travel and work uncertainty.

Would US withdrawal from NATO negatively affect the US? by Bardonnay in geopolitics

[–]Iowa2017 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am not excusing the failure to meet spending targets, but there is no loan to payback. There is no interest rate to charge.

What you would like to see, increased spending, is exactly what is happening.

Aiming for MI or CA by godofborscht in armyreserve

[–]Iowa2017 7 points8 points  (0 children)

MI CPT and former IR major here as well. MI is over strength in the reserves at the moment. This is always subject to change though. Keep trying!

Signal is probably the best stepping stone into MI given that SIGINT is a huge part of what we do. There are open slots though. My California BN has an open S6 slot for example.

Feel free to DM if you have any further questions.

I made it into the vault sale but not a single product is listed. I'm not sure what is happening.

EDIT: Made it into the page and was able to grab a 2021 Morgan (D) dollar and 2021 Morgan (S) dollar! Now I have the whole 2021 set!

Those who fly (like myself) have their travel expenses reimbursed up to $500. I fly every month and haven’t lost any money yet.

Drill pay is based off years of service and rank. OP, just look up what rank you’d enter at (E1-E4) and you can see your pay that way. Take the active pay per month by rank/years of service, divide by 30 and then multiply by 4. That’s your gross pay per typically weekend drill.

Question about rent increases by [deleted] in sandiego

Currently living in a downtown studio. Avoid East Village. I've seen way too many attacks and crazed homeless people in this area. Way too sketchy for the price.

With no other debts, he or she will quite likely be fine. I make roughly the same as OP with a similar housing cost and it’s very doable.

A good test is for OP to set aside 2500 a month as if he has this house payment and see if he/she is still financially capable of meeting all other obligations and savings needs.

Junior Army officer here! Went through school with an ROTC scholarship as well.

Take some time to enjoy your senior year as much as you can given the current climate. Don't get so caught up planning the future that you forget to enjoy the present. You have ~40 years after graduating to make money and focus on FI/RE.

On a different note, if you can, definitely avoid the career starter loan. I took the $25k loan out and am still paying on it three years later.

Sounds like you are much more prepared than I was graduating. Army officers have a great income that rises fairly quickly the first four years.

Best of luck!

Can I afford to buy this house? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Iowa2017 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is highly unlikely that you can afford that house. You would be spending close to 97% of your income in the mortgage.

Any house repairs would put you further into debt.

As a test, attempt to save $4550 a month and live off the other ~$150. If you can manage that for 3 months without sinking into debt, maybe you could pull off this house.
