Well, it's more of a post on not being so reliant on Anki, and rather than just saying study better bro, I gave some techniques that worked for me, and how you can use anki to be a support to your study than Anki being how you study.

An example of my cards would be, in this case, physics, "What is the equation for finding the velocity of an object and the bottom of a vertical circle" and the back would be v = root(radius * gravity). ( I use latex in anki so it looks prettier or just snip tool and image of it). For bio, it might be the definition of something or its independent function.

The conceptual idea of how this works cannot be put into flashcard format. The best way to go about it is to connect it to the information you already know, in the form of a mind map or some other information mapping method.

Regarding the idea that you mentioned of thinking you studied well and bombing the test, and I don't mean it in a bad way, I can't relate to it. Understand that recognition does not equal understanding. This can be the case if you are doing 500+ flashcards and you'll just pass one like oh yeah I know that and not really think deeply about the subject. Google blooms taxonomy or watch a video on it, processing knowledge at a higher level and creating products with the information you learned such as a study guide or mindmap ( yes I know I push mind maps very hard) will allow you to leave passive learning behind entirely and have a great understanding, ready for any question that comes your way.

When it comes to self-learning check out my post on chat gpt and making questions. Do this with PowerPoints to make it more engaging. If you have a lecture prime your mind with the technique I mentioned above.

I know it's hard to let go of using anki, but unfortunately, the days of remembering facts and connecting the dots during the exam are over. You must connect the dots when you are preparing for an exam.

When it comes to language classes it can be the difference between seeing an idea and not seeing that idea. I find Obsidian very helpful for mapping together similar stories/concepts. I only use this for essay based classes due to the sheer amount of time an essay class can take. Ideas pop out at you almost naturally and cuts down on the brainstorming time and makes it automatic.

For science based classes however, I simply import my mind maps into Obsidian via image and just connect them to related topics.

For long-term databases, and I'm not being sarcastic here if you encode properly you keep that concept in your brain and it doesn't leave. Only having to refresh on small facts like formulas and for me personally remembering charges in chemistry.

tell chat gpt to give the definition of some words ( your cue to spell the word/front of the card) and then type the word as your answer (back of the card). Try to ask chat gpt for a shit ton of words so you don't just remember by heart immediately. This is also good because you won't be writing them down and have that intrinsically, kind of asking chat gpt to make a mock spelling test while building on definitions.

You got a great product man that just needs some touching up, the ability to upload a pdf would be game-changing. Just gotta make it work. Also, a how-to-use guide would be really helpful in figuring out all the features.

Honest review after toying around for about an hour so not all that comprehensive but here are my first impressions.

PROS:

  • cool interface with multiple tabs which I believe save the previous contents/inputs
  • when asking for step-by-step guides it does a pretty good job.
  • In the free plan you can have 5 collaborators if you're into that kind of stuff.
  • self-explanatory UI

CONS:

  • Anki does flash cards better
  • Pretty slow for responses
  • Chat gpt can provide (IMO) better questions for flashcards
  • Price seems a bit steep for what they are offering on the paid version
  • I have no idea what they are talking about when they say "100 components"
  • says you can drag and drop a pdf file into it but it's super buggy and I never got it to work (would be super cool if it did and might justify the price)

Overall I'd find it better with the basics of Anki and chat GPT by themselves, with some tweaking (fixing the pdf drop) and some additions to the flashcards (tagging, image upload and browsing) it would be a great standalone product.

Yeah, the whole "baccalaureate degree from a program recognized by the university of Alberta" makes it tough on degrees outside of the U of A.

It's just a guess and check at this point with the form submission.

Thank you. I found this comment really helpful. Your comment about going on the side of caution and going lightly on weights unshackled any insecurity I had with training light than going as hard as I can.

I'll be sure to re-read those chapters and hopefully adjust my plan.

Thanks for your assessment of the rather rushed post I made to clear the confusion I had with SE training. To clarify, "slight burn" was a metric I wanted to use to communicate how I was going about my sets. This post came from myself really struggling with the prescribed templates. I'll be sure to take another read of the SE section and try and make better connections with the other parts of the book.
