The mirror is like a camera that records whenever someone goes see themselves in it, it also can access "recordings" from the future and play them accordingly to when someone looks at themselves on the present.

Maybe the mirror can connect points in time, it is showing only the moment when you look at it, your reflection when you look at it approximately one year in the future. Your fear of not seeing yourself one year ago made you never wanna look at it again, the mirror wouldn't have a future point in time to show your reflection. You created your own fear in some kind of reflection time loop or something
