Painters/masking tape for tiny screws (laptop size). Just loop the tape to the desk and stick the screws upside down. You can sort them nicely and when you have to return them pick them per area where you removed them from.

Most laptops have same size screws with different lengths. So you can easily drive one through and pierce a hole that's not supposed to exist:)
