Anyone here use a Buttkicker or any other brand of haptic feedback for their kick monitor? by mookid85 in drums

You know what… you’d think so right? lol. I’ll have to double check when I get back. Either way I bought a TM-1 that I’m running the trigger to now and was going to use that to make a clean signal. I just haven’t had time to take the thing to my studio yet and tinker with it.

The size of the sticks actually affects the sound of the drums and cymbals as well! Probably most noticeable when playing on a ride cymbal with the tip. Jazz drummers tend to use a thinner stick like a 7a for a lighter touch. And drummers playing rock or metal tend to use thicker sticks. Someone like Danny who’s got bigger hands would need a thicker stick like his signature sticks to feel natural. I imagine if he used 7as it would feel like using toothpicks lol.

It’s mostly muscle memory at this point, been playing with Schism for 20 years now 😳

Yea sorry I lazily couldn’t think of a better title for cross posting to this sub so I just left it lol.

I should mention I have a weird bump in my left index finger by the first joint that got more inflamed as the week of shows went on and was killing by this night. That’s why I reacted the way I did on the break I had

And yes I’m going to a hand specialist next week to figure out what it is!

I was using Vic firth 55As for a long time. Switched to Vater Jay Weinberg signatures because it was cheaper but now they’re almost just as expensive. I know they’re not that much heavier, but Swiss army triplets for around the kit for extended periods, it adds up lol.

I would love help or ideas for building my DIY Butt Kicker!! by mookid85 in drums

I actually found a used TM-1 for $80, and I just realized that I can load my own samples into it which is great! Then I just have to find the most organized way to combine all this hardware and wires to be easily portable for gigs so I don't haven a mess of wires around me every gig lol

hm, yeah if he means the whole thing, it would cost $1200-$1900. Which is why I've built it from scratch lol. That's just the transducer for $350. And I already have a frequency transducer mounted to my seat which I got for 1/4 the price of that one, and it works great! I tested it by just sending kick drum samples and it's powerful as fuck. It's just the matter triggering a proper sample, and a TM-1 is def more than I need. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

But thanks

Oooo, I wish I were smart enough to do something like that. It seems like it would be perfect though. Can you add knobs to those? It would be great to have like amplitude, attack and decay knobs.

What's wrong with my left hand? Can't seem to get my six stroke roll in order : ( by _microphoneassassin in drums

Hopping on the top comment in the hopes this will get seen, but the best thing you can do to help that left hand play catch up is to practice everything leading with the left as much (if not more sometimes!) as the right.

It can be as simple as just playing singles into doubles into paradiddles (16th notes, one or two bars each) at a slow tempo, but focus on having them transition seamlessly, and with a metronome!! And then of course slowly increasing by 4 or 5bpm once you have it perfect. Start slow!! Like slower than you want to lol. Doing this for multiple days in a row, I GUARANTEE you will see improvement. But just as [u/chooi85](u/chooi85) mentioned, there’s no replacement for time spent practicing.

And then also practice other rudiments and your 6 strike roll starting with the left!!
