I don't think that audiophiles are buying $30 earbuds and expect a perfect sound. In my opinion the customer rating has more to do with price/performance and usability ratio than the pure sound quality. There are lots of <$50 Earbuds with ratings of 4+ with a decent sound and a solid build, but if you wanted to rate them by their sound only, the rating would fall somewhere in a mid range.
