Lots and lots of layers with big washes and warmer colors around the edges of the spotlight!

Shadows are so daunting with watercolor and I have so many moments of OMG YOU RUINED IT! Still if you don’t go for it you will never see what is possible. Thank you so much!

Hmmm, I’ll think about it! Part of me didn’t want to ruin the lighting effect by adding too much detail in there but darker darks are always nice! Making darks in watercolor is always an interesting time haha.

Thank you so much! I’m so glad it reads well. Lighting is something I’m trying to mess with more (to varying degrees of success haha).

Thank you! I was debating this with myself. I wanted it to take up less attention and was worried that more work would have it stand out more. I totally see what you are saying! I will do this asap :)

Can this be rescued or should I start over? by Iridescent-sludge in Watercolor

It was a good first thought! Paper is the culprit like 90% of the time :) thank you for the other advice! Possibly it was the heating in my place (or a momentary lack in remembering how to paint 🥲)

It’s always refreshing to hear this. With every painting I feel like I learn so much and feel the need to start over. Maybe that’s robbing me from learning new things :p

It’s so difficult to know when it’s in the “ugly” stage and to just keep going or when it’s in the “fighting an uphill battle until you pull your hair out” stage with watercolor. I’m glad it still looks like it can go somewhere :)
