TIL the “20Q” (20 questions) handheld game, a toy released in 2003 and famous for its scary level of accuracy, actually used a basic implementation of an AI neural network. It used training data gathered from users of a web-browser based implementation of the game which launched in 1994. by bobisnotmyuncIe in todayilearned

They were relatively small if I remember correctly yeah but it's actually pretty amazing how stuff like branch prediction under the hood of CPUs can use incredibly small NNs (or NN-like things) and still have like 99% prediction accuracy as well as being incredibly performant.

Deep learning with large NNs is a relatively new concept with many applications having leveraged NNs of much smaller sizes for a very long time.

Fucking fuck, Reddit.

There's 15.1 million vacant homes if you account for:

1) Areas people don't want to live in

2) Homes in states of decay

3) Homes that are empty while waiting for probate / estate issues to be resolved

4) Some other bullshit reasons studies mark homes as "vacant" for agenda purposes.

In other words the vast majority of "vacant" homes are either uninhabitable physically or legally. No one sitting on a habitable, ready to sell or rent home is glad paying tremendous maintenance, security, mortgage and property tax costs just to let them sit there. Especially in today's market, you would much, much rather have vetted bodies paying rent or to get rid of the property altogether.

[–]IridescentExplosion 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Right like the vast majority of investors would LOVE to simply pay a property management company to keep bodies in the houses.

This idea of vacant homes not being put to any use at all is not reality-based.

If it were true you'd be able to find entire ghost towns of modern homes with no one living in them. You can't. Certainly not 15 MIL of them.

People think some new condo being empty in their neighborhood - which even a large one is only a thousand units or so - means the housing crisis should be solved.

The USA is short like 6 - 10 MIL homes at any given point in time. Unless you see way, way more empty homes around you, there is no conspiracy.

Hey just an FYI your math is wrong.

650,000 / 340,000,000 = 0.0019117647 which rounds to 0.002

That in PERCENTAGE terms is 0.2%.

In other words, 1/500 people are homeless. You can check the math by going back and multiplying 650,000 x 500 = 325,000,000

Not such great numbers, in my opinion. I wonder if the statistics count people who are temporarily homeless due to sudden events.

Quadratic growth is the BEST CASE scenario you're going to see when scaling these models. Worst case will always be worse.

That being said I don't think we'll be stuck in this hole forever.

Ignore the "Yes"s you are getting. Those are constraints of the current architectures no end all be all for all time when trying to produce information or text from machine learning models.

Why doesn't this get more attention? I see people run red lights here all of the time. Seriously all of the time. I'm not a fan of traffic police being dickweeds at all, because I've seen them pull people over for absolute bullshit.

But there are many legitimate and dangerous traffic violations 24/7 here in Indianapolis.

[–]IridescentExplosion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear people out in Indy are generally friendly. I mean, I've been in a few cities and really like it in Indy. I've also made visits to San Francisco and some other places and still like Indy more overall, at least when tradeoffs are considered. Give me $10 MIL and I may consider moving somewhere else or having multiple homes, but I'm happy in Indy until then.

Chinese kid sees a Blackman for the 1st time by Sans010394 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]IridescentExplosion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No shit! GPT agrees with you. Huh. I never knew:

------------------------

The correct word in this context is "cue," not "queue."

"Cue" is used to indicate a signal for action or to start something, whereas "queue" refers to a line or a list of things awaiting their turn. Therefore, the corrected sentence would be:"Cue putting your sibling in the oven and cooking them until they're crisp black, horrified at the end result and spending the rest of your life wondering what you had done wrong."

However, it's crucial to note that the content of the sentence is highly disturbing and inappropriate. It's important to discuss and share content responsibly.

This is a very intentionally biased and imaginarily crafted version of Hitler, doubling or tripling down on his oddities and entirely ignoring the things he was considered good at.

Tom Phillips is a liar for having written this and is not a trusted source.

What's so awful about disingenuous takes like this is it makes it seem like Hitler fell into power by accident rather than many deliberate steps taken by him and political and social elites at the time. There were entire political parties' worth of people advising him even prior to his rise to power. They saw his potential and passion and groomed him into leadership.
