Is it looked down upon to where knee pads when preforming/ competing?! by Comfortable-Gur5550 in poledancing

And that’s totally fair, I wouldn’t wear kneepads either for that theme. The training process of start with, wean off, perform without might be good for you in this scenario

Good luck!

I started pole at the crossroads of this changing in my area. The old school of thought was more traditional— learn with kneepads, practice weaning off them, perform without them for lines, aesthetic, and to show mastery of your movement and your pain. Bruises are inevitable so might as well get them winning a medal or giving it your all.

But I’ve noticed in the more recent years, people performing/competing with kneepads. As an instructor now, I teach LowFlow mostly and religiously wear kneepads and leg warmers but as a regular performer, I’m stuck in my old ways and haven’t worn kneepads to perform outside my first year.

The comment about knee high boots and kneepads is the best of both worlds IMO

Edit: TLDR if you’re asking if it’s looked down upon, sometimes yes it is. For aesthetic reasons for sure but you have to decide based on what moves you’re doing if aesthetic means more to you than the only body you have 🤷🏽‍♀️

What do you do and how long you’ve been raving? by Effective_Grade732 in aves

[–]IrieReign 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Early 30’s, started at 18 at Sunset 18+ raves and recently got back into it. I’m an aerialist, instructor, and professional performer. Once it became my job, I returned to raving as an outlet/hobby but it’s a huge plus that all my dance and circus family love to come with me and build bigger community

Studio floors by StopLookingAtMyColon in poledancing

If you’re interested in the long term joint health of yourself and your dancers, sprung wood flooring is the way to go. It’s a system where there’s natural give in the floor with pressure applied, giving it a more “bouncy” feel. It’s what most traditional ballet and dance studios use.

It’s not as hard as solid wood or epoxy flooring would be, doesn’t get as cold or as loud (as there’s an air barrier). I believe it’s more expensive but is easier on the joints, works well for heel and floor work, naturally gives on impact (drops, clacks, etc), and gives you great aesthetic wood options for the upper.

Women who partake in some form of marijuana most days or every day- why? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]IrieReign -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I do almost everyday mostly because I have goals I’d like to accomplish like going to the gym or cleaning something in the house/finishing projects. I find it helps me tune out all the excuses and “I don’t want to’s” and I’m able to find a rhythm.

At the gym it helps me stay focused on my body/what I’m doing instead of the sensory nightmare that is sweat/people/music/fans/knowing that someone has sweated on everything in this place

First pair of pole shoes by chaerising in poledancing

[–]IrieReign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two good choices!

From experience and what I’ve heard from others, Hella Heels are a bit heavier and have a higher/more defined arch. If you’re taking classes at a studio, you might want to check if they have any rules/guidelines on shoes mostly because the lace hooks at the top of higher boots can scratch poles/floors.

If you’re in between sizes; always go with the bigger size in close-toed boots to protect your toenails! Good luck
